I was rescheduled yesterday for gastric sleeve surgery here in SW Washington. My original date was March 26th, and I was canceled 1 week into my milk diet. SUCKY!! I hadn't cheated once, but I'd built up to it for weeks. My new date is May 28th, since hospitals are allowed to start electives again on May 18th here, and I start my diet next Thursday. Little nervous about that, especially since I work in the education system from home on my computer all day now. I hope to get in and out of all the appointments and surgery before all the restrictions ease (shouldn't happen until mid-June) and people freak out about a new wave and cause a possible second postponement. *fingers crossed*

I have to ask because I don’t know and haven’t heard it before but what is a Milk diet?

Probably the crappiest of all pre-surgery diets. Three 20 ounce servings of skim milk or milk alternative (Fairlife), 1 serving of low sodium broth, and at least 50 ounces of Water (flavored drinks of low/no calorie under 10 only) per day. I am a wateraholic, so I down 120 ounces a day, minimum, so that part isn't hard. Depending on BMI, the clinic has patients do it for 2-3 weeks.

Fortunately, I only have to do 2 weeks, but I did 1 week in March. At about 550 liquid calories per day and 160-170 ounces of fluids, I got dizzy and peed A LOT, but I dropped a pound a day. One of the best ways to get through it was blending with ice to thicken and adding sugar-free syrups to change up the flavor each time. The sweetness made me crave savory though. I'd pump up my evening "dinner broth" with paprika, a few drops of Cholula, or add some peppercorns as I heated it. And sometimes I'd freeze a portion of my daily 60 ounces in these mini silicone popsicle molds to make something I could nibble on.

My surgery date was March17, but was delayed the day before. Anyway, I called Tuesday to see if they had any idea of when they’ll start again. He said probably June. I’m in Michigan.

I’m feeling so discouraged. I’m still at my needed weight loss goal. However, today I felt so down about my weight. Idle time is the devil’s time. I’ve been meditating and that’s been helpful. I am just scared to lose weight and be at a lower BMI. Such an odd place to be. I’m in NYC and chances of us getting elective surgery in the next 4 weeks seems low. However, I am thankful to be in good health. I pray for everyone!

Keep your head up. I was so discouraged when they canceled me the day before my scheduled surgery, and I’ve gained about 5 lbs during this pandemic. So, I realized that it was probably better not to have surgery when things were so bad! So I’m picking my sad self off the ground and getting back on track, cause I’ll probably be the first one they schedule. I’m praying myself, for you and everyone that’s waiting to be scheduled once again.

Damn! Wow I give you soooooo much credit. I know I couldn’t do that diet. Not even for a day let alone 2 weeks. That has got to be the craziest diet. I can’t do it for a few reasons. I’m allergic to dairy and I’m a vegetarian.

After 3 postponements had my surgery yesterday. The downs when cancelled and ups when rescheduled are hard. You have yourself so ready. Plus starting and stopping the Pre op diet was hard but I got there in the end so will you. It will happen, that's what I kept telling myself.

I had gastric sleeve Oct 2017 at our military base and I’ve been sick since. No one could figure out why I kept throwing up everything until we moved to Shreveport, LA. My stomach was too narrow causing everything to get stuck! As soon as insurance (Tricare) approved, I was in the hospital immediately having what they labeled as an emergency surgery. At our hospital, any surgery has to go thru a board for approval since the pandemic has everything screwy. I am currently 10 days out from RNY surgery where they converted me to a gastric bypass, repaired a hernia, did a liver biopsy and removed scar tissue. Can I just tell ya this Mama hurts? I’m awake at 4am with left side pain.

How is everyone doing - I'm supposed to be a revision .. due to GERD, esophagitis and umbilical hernia, even though the hernia isn't probably related to the sleeve and/or the GERD - they are going to do it anyways, as long as I'm under anesthesia, might as well ;)
I was supposed to be 3/18, cancelled on 3/17 - due to the state, New York - I was on a liquid for 2 weeks and omg!!!! that was horrendous - I hope they make a decision soon - things are starting to open up upstate NY right now this week .. Today, things opened for them, I'm downstate, Long Island, and it's still a slow and steady slope down in deaths and positive cases.. So, revisions was 3/18, moved to 4/29, cancelled around 4/1 and nothing so far.
reached out to the surgery coordinator today and he seems to think it'll open very soon - he's waiting for the okay - I'm phase 3, which is the 1st to get elective surgeries, as emergencies... Some hospitals here aren't Covid, they are regular. One can hope it'll be any day that I get a date... then back to liquid - ick!

I'll be honest. Right now I'm wondering WTH have I done. The nausea seems to be getting worse each day. The cramps have eased but not gone away. Just feel terrible. Obviously just unlucky as some people get little or no issues

Hi Cia2020! I wondered what happened to my surgery twin! Sorry about your postponed surgery. Mine was too rescheduled. I went in for my pre-admit. I asked the nurse had the hospital started rescheduling "elective" surgeries yet? She said no. I was hoping to scape by since my hospital I work for was shutting down on 4/1. Nope 10 minutes after I arrived home, I got the call. It's been rescheduled 2x. Finally my new date is May 21. Just fyi..we all maybe subject to Corona testing. I have to get mine 48 hours before surgery. I start my liquid diet tomorrow. All the best everyone!

FINALLY!!!

Cross your fingers for me!

Had a revision date on 3/18 that was cancelled/postponed on 3/16, then moved to 4/29, which was cancelled/postponed on 3/29, received the phone call today that emergency surgeries, elective, my surgeon was informed he has 2 dates in May he can perform ... So I am scheduled for 5/27, hopefully the Governor won't change things in my state - New York.
I have to start my 2 week LIQUID tomorrow, eeeeew and eeeeek! didn't expect this at all..

I'm being revised from Sleeve in 2015 to bypass now. I have been suffering horrendous heartburn and vomitting for a year now - was fine in the beginning, day by day, it's worse and worse - had to double up on my medicine - Protonix - have had so many tests it's ridiculous. I can't take much more - also having an umbilical hernia done too while I'm under ...I don't know what to expect... I hope this works and gets rid of the heartburn ... something has to give!!! I hope they don't cancel on me again... esp after doing another liquid diet.

I hope I remember what my liquid diet should be ..

Anyone been sleeve to bypass - how did you find it?

:) thanks!!!

Hope all is well with everyone!

Super stoked for you!!

It's MY time!

Thanks!!! I just hope it goes this time!

I'm more nervous this time around -- get my hopes up like in March and have the rug pulled out from under me, ya know? :) to do the liquid right too -- how my body will handle the bypass/revision - unsure if it's considered a full gastric bypass or do they do something different. I need to have my surgical clearance and a COVID test ... Medical clearance this week and next week, probably surgical clearance. Is a revision called a RNY? I better look into it more, I didn't care at the time, due to never knew when it was going to happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
