Corona delaying weight loss surgery dates? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

My surgeon called me yesterday to let me know that my 4/13 date is postponed. He assured me that I will be given a new surgery date as soon as he's able to reschedule them. He thought we were probably looking at summer. I thought it was super sweet of him to call me himself. I feel for these surgeons whose paycheck is based off the number of procedures they do.

I'm disappointed, he has to be that and more. I'm grateful my surgeon is based out of a University hospital, so I know he'll get his base salary; and he's also a General Surgeon so he can take on other types of surgeries.

Hang in there everyone! Don't give up when you've come so far! Take it one day at a time, control those things you can, and then let the others go. I turn them over to God, but that is me and not everyone else. Take a few minutes and find your happy place; this isn't a rejection, it's simply a delayed gratification.

Wishing all the best to all of us! xoxoxo

STOP!
I can’t EVEN!
I can’t think about surgery delay to 2021 I will lose my mind

I was 3 days away.
Lisa I am so sorry about your situation. It’s really hard to make these arrangements and jump through the hoops and it’s all out of our control.

between sick parents and kids out of school and still trying to work at home while being a nurse and schoolteacher is extremely overwhelming.

my fear is that I will completely give up and revert back to my old habits not having the pool or gym to go to anymore, and my favorite thing to do is eat when I’m depressed, I don’t feel like going out for a walk or anything. Just stuck again

so I feel you I really do

I feel you. I fell off the wagon hard when they cancelled mine. 2 huge things in my life this year was finally getting my surgery approval and graduating college, and both are cancelled. Its feels like why bother?? Me being healthy isn't considered essential to anyone else so why should I care?? I'm in depression mode hard.

I'm sure it's depressing, and I would have felt the same way, but looking at this from the outside, they're trying to save people from dying from this stupid virus (or making sure they're ready to save them). Yes, your health IS super important and I'm sure they know that, but in the grand scheme of things, saving someone's life takes higher priority. I think if I were in your situation, in my mind I would have understood that - but yes, emotionally, I would have been pretty upset.

Mine was scheduled for April 24th and has been cancelled as well. My weight loss is necessary for my kidney transplant and now everything is on hold . . . I so feel for all those that are in this same boat, but we are all going to make it! Keep safe and soon we will be able to go outside with the knowledge that this is all behind us. Don’t lose hope.

I had just started my process and was close to getting my surgery date. I just hope I can get my date schedule this year before I have to meet my deductible all over again.

Me too!!! I’m frustrated but things could be worse. Mine was 3/18. Three days before they cancelled. Then it was 4/29

Now it’s nothing. I’m for
A revision.

I wish everyone health and we will all get there soon enough. Be well.

I was supposed to be finishing up my 6-month required pre-op weight loss journey in April and submitting the documents for insurance approval, but now I don't know what to do because I was planning on having this surgery in May because I start back college again in August and I wanted to have the surgery over with so I don't have to wait another year to get it. I have a virtual doctor's appointment on Tuesday and I am so nervous about what she is going to say about the surgery date.

Well I was scheduled to meet with the surgeon on April 9th. Two weeks before I received a call (from the surgery scheduler, who btw has never been nice) that my surgery is postponed indefinitely. Firat I am on OHP (Medicaid) and I win my appeal, good for a year. Let hope that OHP will extend due to the pandemic and we don’t have to wait too long. Btw, I was so depressed, I had a mental breakdown. Wish all the best during this time. Luvs and kisses everyone.

the information i got on federal and state guidelines says that the state of emergency in the specific state must be lifted before any surgeries are scheduled, and then it's up to the hospital as to whether or not they are supplied and staffed. so I really think most of us will be seeing our surgeries getting scheduled by mid may to june

I find it ridiculous that they consider your surgery elective if a kidney transplant is pending it! ummm kinda necessary!

My surgery was scheduled for April 14. They called me around March 25 to let me know that my surgery was cancelled, and I didn't have to start my pre-op diet on March 31. Like everyone else, they said surgeries would be rescheduled in the same order once they're allowed to schedule elective procedures again.

I think the hospitals here are not in bad shape, but just as a matter of policy, they've cancelled everything elective. I don't blame them. I'm disappointed, of course, since I was really excited to finally have my surgery. In the meantime I'm continuing to try to eat healthier, exercise, and wean myself off sugar etc.

I am having my gastric balloon removed on Monday. It is not for me. food sits on top of it and doesn’t digest. Now I am transitioning to the sleeve. My insurance approval will be complete mid May. I’m hoping not to have a delay in getting it done.

All elective surgeries in my area have been postponed. I would have had surgery sometime in the next couple weeks (I started the whole process on March 13) but as of right now my surgery is tentatively scheduled for May 12, although that is subject to change if current circumstances persist. Overall I know that two months from the very first appointment to date of surgery is quite fast, but I'm just sad that surgery could have been a month sooner. I'm just anxious to get this show on the road already!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
