Where did THAT come from?

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 weeks away from surgery now and so excited about the changes I'll be able to make! And I'm pleased with the progress I've made so far - I'm down 40 pounds, I'm able to walk over a mile without getting winded and exercise is now a joy instead of a burden. Life is good, right?

So why am I all of a sudden teary all the time? What the heck? I'm pretty positive most of the time, so I don't really know where these eye leaks are coming from. I'm done with all my pre-op stuff now; just waiting for the day to get here. Is my subconscious somehow mourning the change that is to come to my body? Anyone else had this happen? This weepiness is getting on my nerves, LOL!

I'm guessing nerves? It's a huge life change. You're altering a part of your body, forever. You're giving up your current relationship with food, which, for a good portion of us, is hard. Food is comfort. For some, it was their friend (that's what the people on the 600 lb. life show say). It can be fear. We all worry about surgery. While I cried over nervousness before, I had waaaayyyyy more emotional moments after. Happily, most of them are good now (teary-eyed over a new size or number on the scale I haven't seen in forever; not being out of breath or doing something I couldn't for quite some time). You'll go through, and continue to go through a lot. It's ok to let it out and cry. It's healthy! I'm so happy for you, so glad you're date is coming soon. :)

I've read in numerous places that part of it's due to the estrogen that's stored in fat cells being released with the rapid weight loss. Your system is being flooded with it. A lot of women have screwed up menstrual cycles for the first few weeks or months after surgery, too. It'll eventually stabilize.

catwoman7, that makes perfect sense. I'm VERY postmenopausal, but since my surgery I can cry seeing a cute puppy or a Hallmark ad on TV! So I guess I'm finding estrogen I've stored all those years! I'll be glad when all that she-juice is gone and I can go back to my cold-hearted bitchiness...

hmmm....I was also post-menopausal by the time I had surgery, but I didn't have any of the hormone effects (no moodiness, etc). I'm not sure how long the estrogen hangs around in the fat cells. Maybe longer in some than in others - or there may have been something else that set that off for you? Not sure.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
