Depressed and GROUCHY

Recommended Posts

I'm a little over 3 weeks post op and lately I have been depressed and VERY GROUCHY. I have ZERO energy and all I want to do is sleep. I know it has to be a phase but I sure HOPE it gets over SOON. People that are not going through this don't understand at all. I actually had somebody at work ask me "why are you being such a B*tch lately". She KNOWS that I had surgery. Anyways, I've lost 34 pounds so I'm proud of that. I just needed to vent. Has anybody else experienced this??

Hey !!!! What's going on ???? tell me what you are eating/drinking ….I was low on energy at first too. but as I got more Water and Protein in on a daily basis it got better. Just hang in there .. it's kind normal... I say kinda because you may not be taking in enough water and protein and vitamins...

I also went through a spell where I was bitchy and depressed. I could cry at the drop of a hat. It did go away, just your body and mind trying to adjust!

Big tip, Stop worrying about weight loss right now. Focus on your intakes. The rest will fall into line. It sucks, but it's worth it... so worth it. Get those habits instilled now. That said, this is normal. It will pass, just work on your Water and whatever, this will pass.

You know what PMS is? Well now you're in its personal hell. Haha. When your body goes through trauma AND when there's a significant weight loss in a short period of time, your hormones go nutballs. It will calm down and even out as the weight loss slows to a more normal weight and your body is like oh okay cool I got this.

I just put myself in time out and went to bed early most nights with a book and a heated blanket.

6 pm? Night night ! Lol

How much Protein are you getting daily? I was averaging 60 grams per day and had very low energy. Talked to my nutritionist and she recommended I up protein to 70 or even 80 grams per day. That helped me have more energy. I am shooting for 80 grams daily now.

I go 60g a day. My nut told me not to go any higher

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
