Eating To Much???

Recommended Posts

I JUST HAD MY FIRST FILL ON 11/26/07, IT WAS ONLY 1/2 CC DUE TO MY BEING SO FAR AWAY FROM THE DR.'S OFFICE. HE DIDN'T WANT ANY COMPLICATIONS, I GO BACK IN TWO WEEKS FOR ANOTHER 1/2 CC. I DO NOTICE SOME RESTRICTION HOWEVER, I FEEL LIKE I AM EATING TO MUCH BECAUSE IT IS MORE THAN 1/4 OF A CUP. EXAMPLE: I ATE A CUP OF Soup FOR lunch AND 4 chicken CHUNKS ( LIKE QUARTER SIZE) DOES THIS SOUND ABOUT RIGHT FOR WHERE I AM AT RESTRICTION WISE? I AM STICKING TO THREE TIMES A DAY WITH A SG FREE ITALIAN ICE FOR A snack. WOULD LOVE ANY INPUT TO HELP ME.:)

I've never been able to survive on that little, and i've never been told I had to. The way I see it, the right amount for YOU is the amount that satisfies you. If you lose weight on that amount, then that's perfect. If you dont, then you can a) look at WHAT you're eating and lower calorie content if there's room to do that - by cutting fat, refined flour, etc, :) do more exercise and c) get more fill till you ARE satisifed on an amount of food that makes you lose weight.

I sound like I'm always arguing about that 1/4 or 1/2 cup amount but really, its right for SOME people, but its not necessary for ALL people. At 3ml in a 4ml band I put away about a 3/4 of a cup at a time, I would not feel satisfied on 1/4 and I would be starving half an hour later. Its right for me.

Your best source for diet information is your doctor's office. Most Lap-Band patients eat 1 to 1.5 cups of food 3 times per day. If you are onky eating 1/4 cup of food 3 times a day, I doubt that your nutritional needs will be met.

Thank You For All The Input!! This Really Helps Me Not Feel Like I Am Eating To Much. I Will Continue To Listen To My Appetite And Stop When I Am Full. But Now I Don't Feel Like I May Be Eating To Much. Thanks!

When you don't have restriction 1 cup of food is okay. When you do have good restriction 1/4 to 1/2 cup is optimal. It will be okay when you have more fills.

So if you eat more than the amount recommended, will you risk stretching your pouch? I try to stick to 1/2 cup or 4oz and sometimes it just doesnt feel like it was enough.

The best source for amounts of food that you should eat is your doctor.

Eating very small amounts of food is not what the Lap-Band was designed for.

Extremely small amounts of food could lead to very dangerous health conditions, so please consult your doctor or nutritionist for accurate and safe advice.

My doctor gives me a big smile when I say that I can only eat 1/2 cup of food. If you get your Protein in, which is most important, and can handle 1/2 cup then that is great restriction!

The very best person to ask that question of is your doctor, because only your doctor is qualified to give you medical advice.

If you regularly eat the point of feeling really full, you do risk stretching your pouch. YOu need to learn to eat to "satisfied" not "full". If a cup takes you to satisfied, then that means its moving through fast enough to keep from stretching.

Unless your pouch is already stretched out! Which is not likely if you've been a fairly compliant bandster and if you havent allowed your band to be really really tight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
