Maybe I’m crazy but I have one more week on Protein Shakes until I’m in the soft foods stage but I’m kinda freaking out because I have not had solid food for 10 days! What if it hurts to eat? What if my weight loss slows down? What if I DON’T feel full like I’m supposed to?

Has anyone else experienced these thoughts? How was it for you when you could actually eat again?

Yes, I clearly remember being afraid of eating after four weeks of shakes (two weeks pre-op and two weeks post-op). They are so easy and there is no guesswork, whereas starting on soft foods involves measuring portions, calculating Protein content and counting calories. It's definitely scary at first, but it's all part of the process of getting to your new normal over the next few months. Just follow the program your surgeon/nutritionist gave you and you'll be fine.

I understand perfectly how do you feel about eating soft foods. When I started that phase I quickly found out that certain things would not stay down, such as tuna and other things as I came across them. The important thing is to remember to chew your food really really well at least 20 times before you try to swallow. I can tell you from learning the hard way, and throwing up multiple times from trying to eat too quickly it is not a fun thing to spend the next two hours feeling sick.

Just take it slow and incorporate little things at a time to see how you do. Good luck.

Just take it slow and chew alot and you should be fine. I just started soft foods today after 2 weeks of liquids.

I had an egg and a string cheese. Went down quite well. Best damn egg I've ever eaten in my life. I plan on trying tuna tomorrow.

I still have 2 more weeks on shakes before moving to pureed food. I have been on liquids as of tomorrow for 4 weeks. My biggest fear is I won't feel any restriction or fullness when I start eating. I have had no problem whatsoever drinking more Water than what is required nor drinking any of the shakes. I don't feel any pain or restriction and have not had any episodes of nausea or vomiting! Not even immediately after surgery! Has anyone ever heard of anyone else like that or experienced that? Sometimes I feel like I didn't even have the surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
