I did, immediately after surgery. I think it is pretty common...My doc gave me one of these incentive spirometers to address it. It basically encourages you to do deep breathing. Can you ask your doc for one?

....or do some deep breathing yourself? Either way, let your doc know.

Ok. I have 2 of them. I was admitted back to the hospital the same day of my discharge. I couldn't catch my breath and my hemoglobin levels were alarmingly low. I have an appointment today and I'm going to have them do some bloodwork for me. Thank you!

Severe Anemia can cause laboured breathing.

Hi, I'm 2 weeks post op and I remember after my surgery, I mean immediately after, I had shortness of breathing, and like a sharp pain when I took a deep breath, my brother did this same surgery 5 years back and he said it was the anesthesia that shrinks your lungs for an initial period, but now its completely gone and that spirometer really helps, right after surgery I was only able to get 2 balls in the air, now I can get all 3, oh and right after surgery, I also had this like bad back pain which also went overtime, but man, it actually ended up fixing my back problems drastically, now I feel so good. Just hang in there, oh and this is very important, breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth, if you don't take deep breaths, nothing will change, it will just be the same.

Thank you so much! It really helps knowing that I'm not the only one who has experienced these issues. Even the back pain. Thank you for the encouragement and I wish you all the best while you're on your journey

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
