Recommended Posts

I am getting close to being banded and I am getting concerned about what I can and cannot eat after banding. I am a very picky eater and I am concerned that I will not have a lot of foods to choose from. Can someone tell me a list of the absolute NO NO'S of food after banding??? Thank you!!!!!!!!:help:

There isnt one, its a totally individual thing what you can and cant eat.

On a "can I tolerate this" note, common foods that cause bandsters trouble are anything bread like - bread, cake, muffins, etc, although many people can do bread toasted. Steak, chicken, can be difficult, stringy vegetables or fruit and vegetable skins. I find fish difficult and I have to peel apples to eat them now.

On a "should I eat this" note, you'll find differences everywhere. Many people, particularly in the States, believe passionately in lowering carb intake, and avoiding bread and Pasta and rice, altogether. Many believe in just not eating anything made with processed white flour. Protein first is huge for you guys, here, its not pushed. It works all ways, some people really do seem to need to cut carbs to lose and others (like me) dont.

My doctor has me on full liquids for another two weeks after surgery, and said that once I switch to solids to be very careful with nuts like almonds, and tougher meats like pork. But for the most part, I think it's just really important to chew everything very thoroughly. I'm getting banded the 30th, when is yours?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
