I’m going in tomorrow. Does anyone have suggestions or tips for my bag? I’ll be in for 2 nights. Big loose pj pants or yoga pants? Gas x? Also how soon could you shower? Thanks in advance for your advise!

Honestly I needed the bare minimal. I would recommend going minimal because u have to take everything back out plus the stuff they provide you. I did pajamas I did a black night gown with a big pair of cheap slew pants. I showered the day after surgery and that helped me gain energy lol and motivation. Slipper to walk is a must. I also loved everything warm. So my husband brought out heated blanket. You can also use a heating pad for your stomach. I found when my stomach was warm. It helped the pain.
A lot of people swear by the gas x. But very little gas gets into your intestines (by absorption). It is inflated into your cavity so your organs will “unstick”. Our organs are piled and stuck together in our bodies. They also push most of the air out. That being said gas x may be a mind over matter. But our minds are very strong! So if you think it will work try it. Just ask your nurses first. . The shoulder pain is caused by the gas pushing on a nerve in our shoulder. A massage or heat and cold will also relax that nerve.
I loved having my own water bottle. But I also loved the hospital Water jug once I got home and the swelling in my stomach decreased and I could sip more. When I was in the hospital I just rested ( I have 3 kids at home) so I would walk and rest. And repeat. I didn’t care about anything lol. But make sure everything at home is set up for you to come home!!

Travel light Comfy lay around the house on a sunday outfit, I did not shower in the hospital since i got out the next day,

Trust all of us on this after the surgery is done put on your comfy close before they hook up the IV and get you body walking and moving. You will be so much better if you walk around 15 min per hour = Less Gas move out air and begin to feel good. It is the key to this

something like yoga pants for the trip home is good. And maybe your phone, the phone charger, and something to read - although to be honest, I mostly just slept. And they'll have all kinds of meds there to deal with whatever, so you probably won't need the GasX, either. I can't remember when I first showered - but probably sometime that first week after getting home.

I wore out what I wore in and just stayed in hospital gown. Chap stick, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a charger. Honestly that's all you need. They have everything else. I was only in one night for rny because I was doing great and wanted to go home but they offered a shower in the second day if you wanted it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
