I am a bag of nerves and weak as a cat. Been on this all liquid diet for 2 weeks, but today I don't get to have the Protein Shakes, cottage cheese ect. Nope, today is crystal light, chicken broth, Gatorade, and magnesium citrate. I see now what a difference the shakes made every day. I don't drink the magnesium citrate until 4, and can't imagine what that is going to be like since everything coming out seems to be Water. All kinds of thoughts running through my head like being on this 2 week liquid diet, of course there is weight loss and I am feeling skinny. It makes you think why couldn't you have just done this on your own? Wondering how everything will go tomorrow? Hospital in the morning at 6. Will I go immediately to a room and have IV's? How soon will I be put to sleep ect? I really hope things happen quick so i don't have a lot of thinking time! Tomorrow starts a whole new healthy life!

Hi, I had my sleeve done a week ago today. All is going pretty well. I didn't have to have any bowel prep with the Magnesium citrate And I've never heard of Anyone else who did either. Good luck with that. When you get to the hospital you'll probably go to admitting where they'll get you registered and put an arm band on you and then you'll be taken to the pre-op area. There they Ask you a lot of questions and get you prepped, starting and IV st cetera. The nurses are usually very good and reassuring. Your surgeon should stop by to chat with you. When it's time the will wheel you into the OR and have you slide over on to the OR table. It's usually about 5 minutes after you're there when they put you out and start the procedures. You'll wake up in recovery groggy. And you'll be there probably about 1 1⁄2 hours. You'll still be someone groggy when they take you to your room but they usually try to get you up within a few hours.Hope all goes well with your surgery best of luck to you.

Well guys, I had my surgery. Turns out I had a very huge hernia that I didn't know about! I was in surgery for 4 hours. I am doing great though except for the gas pain. I have walked, and I have drank a total of 20 ounces that also included 1 packer of injury clear Protein Drink. I have 6 little holes. Throat is a little sore but I am doing way better than expected. God is so good! Now can't wait to get over the air pain. My shoulders are really hurting!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
