guidance plz - 3 days postop

Recommended Posts

3 days post op, had my shower today and pulled bandaids off slowly. the top incision bandaid pulled the steri strip off with it. Will this be a problem, should i get one from docs office?

also, i am having a difficult time getting my liquids in. i have not had any Protein. i have had watery apple juice, Water and some broth (broth is making me gag) :)

My docs office said i can only have Clear Liquids. Any suggestions would help, i am getting a headache, and feel lethargic. :help:

Overall, am feeling better with each day (the pain).

Thanks for your guidance, i really appreciate it very much.

Debbie

Debbie,

I think what you are going thru is quite common. Its very hard to get the liquids in. ONe thing you might do is carry a Water bottle around with you EVERYWHERE. Sip on the Water at all times, just baby sips.

One of the things I did was set a kitchen timer for 15 min. Every 15 min it would ding and It was time for more liquids.

It will get easier, promise. My pain was completely gone by I believe day 9. Most say sooner, but I felt it until day 9. The port side is the one that takes the longest to heal I think.

Best wishes!

PS - my strip came off at about 5 days. But its always best to call your doc with questions like these regarding the strip coming off. He might want it to stay on longer.

Hi! I think you will be fine without the steri-strip as long as the insission isn't bleeding. When I was on the clear liquids stage I drank Isopure (clear Protein drink). It doesn't taste too bad, and the energy the protein gives you is well worth it. You can buy it at GNC.< img src="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="https://s.bariatricpal.com/uploads/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

My doc gave me a nausea patch behind my ear before surgery, so when I came out it would be working already. It worked like a charm!!! I'm 9 days post op and haven't had one minute of nausea. It's wonderful.

hey guys. well my dh bought 2 Isopure premixed drinks ($4 a bottle) lasts for aprox 3 days when opened. the grape kinda tastes like koolaid upon first drinking. afterwards there is a slimmy effect, but i dont care. i finally got some Protein in last night and was able to get rid of my headache.

today i am going to focus on getting atleast 10 ozs of that today along with Water, apple juice and maybe some strained Soup broth.

by the way, my RN told me only CLEAR liquids, that means no shakes :(

Thanks again for your help. Debbie

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
