I'm prepared to get responses that tell me I'm out of my mind, but I am having a gastric sleeve procedure one week from now and I turned 81 years old in January 2020.

My rationale is that while I might not have many years left on this planet, I want to look as good as I can and feel as good as I can. Summer is coming and I mind the heat dreadfully. I'm looking forward to being more comfortable come the hot weather. Yes, I have air conditioning but I do go out the door sometimes.

I'd love to hear from people in my age bracket who had undergone this surgery. I am in the Boston, Massachusetts area, and I am told by the weight center where I am being treated that they have several people in my age group scheduled for upcoming surgery.

If your doctor says it's OK and you feel you are physically OK, then go for it. Good luck.

You folks are so nice to send me these messages. I've made up my mind and nothing is going to change that. I had a hard time convincing my family (and some friends) that I was going through with it but it's now or never.

I'm 73 years old and just had my sleeve gastrectomy this past Wednesday and so you're not too old. I agree with you let's have some quality for the years we have left. I wanna be able to play with my grandchildren and have the energy for my passions. Good luck to you

Thanks so much for your encouraging note. I really appreciate it. I see you had the sleeve...that's what I'm having. I want to lose 75-80 pounds. I'm only 5'2" and I weigh 202 now.... Actually, it was just a week ago I got a call to come in to see my surgeon and she gave me the "go". She told me to start losing weight on my own before the surgery (which is scheduled for this coming Wednesday.) I actually have lost 10 pounds in 7 days.. I proud of me and I'm proud of YOU :)

Keep in touch.

Many thanks,

Grace

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
