Pre op diet losers club member needing HELP

Recommended Posts

I’m 3 days into 14 day pre op diet and I’ve failed. Ate like he!! first 2 days and struggling today. So far I’ve had 1 shake, 1 Protein Drink, Water, 3 slices of lunch ham and wonton Soup minus the noodles. My question is.. how does the surgeon determine if your liver is too large? Do they examine you? I have 11 more days to go and I’m scared. I’ve already read through several posts regarding this subject. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

Edited to add.. My original diet is no more than 6 shake daily, broth, sugar free Jello and popsicles.

they can't determine your liver is too large until they get in there. If it's too big to do the surgery, they won't do the surgery. This pre-op diet is to help ensure that the liver will be small enough for them to do the surgery

most of us have been through that diet. It's hell, but it can be done. And it's the worst part of the whole ordeal. You'll just have to white knuckle it.

They were not. Today is more manageable. I hope it gets better as the days go by

I'm on day 13 of the pre-op diet and believe me it gets easier after around day five (still sucks though). Luckily, I'm allowed cream type Soups so at least there's that. Hang in there and make your remaining days count!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
