It has been one week....

Hi everyone

It has been exactly one week since my lap band surgery and I am here to say that I am so glad I went through with it! I am not having a bit of trouble getting my Protein (70 gm) or liquids (64 oz) in once I learned how to sip s-l-o-w-l-y. At first I was having horrid port site and back pain, especially in the evenings. After I realized it was because I was "over eating" and slowed down, I am doing great. I know I am supposed to stay off the scale for a while, but I couldn't resist this morning. Down 13 pounds!! :whoo:

Well, I just wanted to offer encouragement for the pre-ops and just had surgery folks. Take care.

I'm glad to hear that it is all going well for you!

It is an adjustment to learn to drink slower, but also not to swallow air while drinking. I found that to be somewhat difficult.

Congrats on your weight loss!

Hi Hungryfor change!

How are you doing with your liquid regimen? You didn't say in your reply. How did you get your weight loss on your ticker? I can't quite figure that out. :help:

Thanks,

I see your weightloss in your ticker? You must have figured it out!

I'm doing ok on the liquid diet. I'm not one of the lucky ones who is not hungry as I was hungry almost right away.

In a few days I can have cream Soups and malto meal and I think I could live on those. hehe! I also like the broths. I'm going to get some unflavored Protein powder to add to things and that should make it easy enough to get in the protein...I hope!

Congrats sweeth20pearl!! So happy for you and way to go on the weight loss!!

My surgery date is this Friday, Nov 30 and I am totally freaking out. Thinking abt postponing but I really need to get on with this!!

Did you have much pain when you woke up from the procedure? Just wondering because everyone is telling me to make sure I take pain meds to stay in front of the pain.

Congrats again. Wish it were Saturday already!!:faint:

HungryforChange,

Yeah, I went back to Tickerfactory and read the instructions!! Ha! My surgeon and staff told me to get a minimum of 70 grams of Protein per day...they said that if you get the protein, you won't get hungry. I use AnyWhey Protein Powder in all my soups...and I make a great drink with SF hot chocolate mix, vanilla protein powder and cold Water poured over ice. Lucky you to be getting malt o meal so soon...I still have a week to go on liquids. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

Worth the Wait,

I stayed in the hospital overnight and started on Darvocet that night. I was having bad chest and back pain, so I went for a walk and then took a couple Darvocet. I have not taken pain meds since I got home. I find that if I have belly/chest/or back discomfort, it is from "eating" too fast or a bit too much. I just walk around a bit, burp, and feel much better. Don't be afraid of the pain...mostly it is a soreness. I agree with the others you have talked with...Take your pain meds to stay on top of the pain, but not enough to be "gorked" out. You need to walk and move around! You will not regret your decision to have the surgery a few months from now as you are buying smaller clothes and fitting into chairs easier!! Keep me posted on how you are doing!

Did you have much pain when you woke up from the procedure?

When I first woke up, I had pain at my port incision. I remember telling her that it hurt. She asked me what level of pain it was on a scale of 1 - 10 and I said a 4. I was pretty much still out of it, but I think it was probably an accurate reading for myself. It was just that initial waking up where you think ... owwwie, oh yea! I just had surgery. haha! But when asked to put it on a scale, you realize it doesn't hurt THAT bad. For me, I hurt worse now than I did then. Getting up out of chairs, out of bed, etc is painful.

4 days out of surgery now:

i have had a terrible time with nausea. i dont feel like putting anything in my mouth.....(i really want some crackers or toast, but cant)

i have now tried some Isopure Protein. tastes like crap :) today i have only had 2.5 oz, some apple/water, and some strained tortilla Soup. i think it might be too spicy though.

i now have discovered the surprise of thinking i am passing gas, but oh no........i had an accident.....

i called the nurse she told me to take immodium chewable or liquid. i finally broke my low-grade fever this morning.

i dont mean to be negative, but i feel so helpless for my body right now. i just want to have some yogurt, or sf pudding, or something with some substance.

sorry guys, i guess this to will pass, but i am about to cry from the cramping, headaches, nausea.

sincerely,

debbie

I'm 8 days out and I feel great. I still have some pain at the port site but it isn't too bad. I was hungry the last few days but now I know it was PMS. TOM hit last night and today I've had no hunger. I can barely eat. I actually know I have a band now and this is without a fill. I had some yogurt for Breakfast and it took like an hour to eat it. For lunch I had a few bites of refried Beans. I am having some chicken broth now. I had been eating every few hours the last few days and I have to admit I am so happy the hunger is gone. It actually makes TOM worth it. I've only had 16 oz of H2O and I know I've got to get more in so I will work on that for the rest of the day.

Debbie, I'm so sorry you are having a rough time. I promise it will get better. Take your pain meds, they will help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
