Thank goodness for Mint Tea~

Recommended Posts

So, fighting off the flu. Everyone at work has been getting it. I have the very early stages of it for the last couple days. Hoarse voice. A little bit of a cough with wheezing and just a tad bit of phlegm in my chest. Sitting at work, drinking mint tea. Why am I so thankful for Mint Tea? It is one of the few that I can drink WITHOUT sugar or honey!

Just curious... for those who like to sweeten their teas... what other teas do you like when you DON'T sweeten them? I do not want to use Stevia or artificial sweeteners.

I don't sweeten teas, either, but there are a lot of good ones that don't really need it ANYWAY. Tazo has a line of "dessert teas" that are kind of sweet on their own. And there are ginger teas. I got a really good one last winter that had a lot of spices in it - cinnamon, ginger, etc - I'll see if I can find it. That was really great on its own, too.

Also great are Celestial Seasonings mixes- peach passion, black cherry etc.. you don't even miss sweetness that much.

I LOVE TEA...NO SUGAR NEEDED, EVER FOR ME. I drink a lot of Trader Joe's teas, Pomegranate and white tea, Peppermint, Green Tea, a night time tea blend.

My non-Trader Joe's teas are various. I don't like orange flavored tea. Celestial peach, lemon, Chamomile. Tazo Passion tea is good hot or cold, if you drink it cold mix a lemonade Crystal light or drink mix with it over ice.

When I want a sweet treat, I mix hot and warm black tea with a vanilla premier shake. It's like having a British tea with sweet cream, no sugar needed and you get a serving of Protein.

I have more ideas, but it really depends on your tea preference.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
