Cheated on Liver Shrinking Diet

Recommended Posts

Hi all! First post. I’m 21 years old, 278 lbs and I have my surgery to be scheduled on the 18th. I’m currently on my liver shrinking diet which requires me to drink two Protein Shakes a day and I can have lean meats and vegetables fruits and for Snacks sugar free Jello and Greek yogurt. Usually in a day I just drink One Protein Shake for Breakfast , Protein shake for lunch and for dinner a baked chicken breast and jello. Well today I messed up and had 6 Peanut Butter crackers. I feel really guilty and now im paranoid that my liver won’t shrink good enough. Any advice?

Don't sweat it; just get back on the diet and keep going. Although I'm sure those crackers tasted like heaven; it won't mess up your surgical date! Hang in there!

You are over thinking the little crackers MOVE on and get back on course - You can not get em back now so all you can do is keep getting healthy

just get back on track! one mishap will not do damage, but try to stay on track because after surgery you will not have a choice but to, so it will make it easier. Also the shrink diet is so it can reduce your liver size as it sits on top of your stomach They need to be able to see around it in order to do the surgery laparoscopic. If they cant, they can end up opening you up instead of you having 4 small sutures.. everything the dr asks us to do is for a good reason.

Just don't do it again. It's not the end of the world, but you need to follow the liver shrinking diet fully so that you'll be able to have your surgery on time and without a delay if your liver is too big.

your pre surgery seems to be more generous than most. I know it can be difficult to NOT do what you normally do as in eating whatever ,whenever however after surgery there will be more specific do's and dont's that you will need to be faithful to in order to be successful at weight loss soooo you may as well train yourself to eat what you are adviced to and leave the old behavior behind . This is NOT a temporary DIET its a lifetime change of eating habits.. get on board and stay on board...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
