DerickM 1 Posted November 27, 2007 Briton faces lashes in Sudan over teddy named Mohammed - Telegraph Gillian Gibbons, a 54-year-old British primary school teacher in the Sudan, is facing 40 lashes and up to 6 months in prison for letting her pupils name a Teddy Bear "Mohammed", on the grounds that this supposedly insults the bloodthirsty pedophile maniac who founded Islam. The kids themselves came up with the name, giving it 20 out of 23 votes. Angry mobs have gathered around the police station where Gibbons is being held. Her entire school has been closed down for fear of reprisals. Explains school director Robert Boulos: She has done nothing wrong but now we are very concerned that there's a risk to the school and the students from the men in the street. Imagine a religion so depraved that its followers threaten children for innocently naming a teddy bear. But I'm forgetting: it's intolerant to disapprove of the Religion of Peace. pippinje 0 Posted November 28, 2007 I saw this article the other day and was horrified. Really disturbing. I think Britain should step in for this woman.
transformer 1 Posted November 28, 2007 It's too bad that those who are angry can't view the children's act of naming their beloved Teddy Bear Mohammed as a tribute or an honor, rather than blasphemy. The punishment seems a bit harsh to me when compared to the "crime," but what do I know about such things? :noidea:
green 6 Posted November 28, 2007 Maybe she should offer to change its name to Jesus.

DonHoll1 0 Posted November 29, 2007 I find Islam to be a very scary religion. So very repressive for women. I find all organized religion scary as far as that goes. Donna

DerickM 1 Posted November 30, 2007 and where are the protests and marches whenever a "extremist" kills innocent people? I know of one such march that took place in a southwest pacific country. With lack of evidence to the contrary, one must conclude then that the "extremist" point of view is considered acceptable and right by the majority of the Islamic world/faith.
