FWJ 9 Posted May 26, 2020 Is anyone else struggling to get their eating under control? I guess I assumed that after the surgery, I would not have any issues with food. Or at least not like I had before. It has been 4 months since my surgery and I feel as though I am struggling with food. I am beginning to eat out of boredom ass well a emotional eating. I am still losing, but I really feel as though now is the time to get this under control. Any suggestions?

But when I was In Quarantine I was eating out of boredom. It’s something that is hard to break. And defiantly needs to get under control. I drink Water when I feel I’m hungry. And if I’m hungry after the water then I’ll check the time and see if I need a meal or a small snack. Like a cheese stick etc

Like a cheese stick etc I am glad you are back to work. I am considered essential and therefore have worked the entire time. I do try to drink water first, but I am not always successful. I do get plenty of water throughout the day. Most days I get between 56 and 64 oz. I try not to snack, but there are times when I cannot control it. My doctor believes that you should only have three meals per day with no Snacks. I am just finding it hard to do. How long after a meal do you need a snack? How long after a meal do you need a snack? So I also try to only eat meals. I will “snack” if I feel the head hunger uncontrollably hungry feeling. And it’s a cheese stick a couple cashews. A 1/4 of an Apple. But I wake up and eat two egg whites. With salt and pepper every morning and drink water throughout. I eat “lunch” at about 12 or 1. And it’s something small like a cheese stick and 1/4 of an orange or just something to get in my tummy. I also eat the belveta crackers they r for Breakfast but I eat them for lunch lol I also like to eat a chicken thigh boneless skinless for lunch if I remember to bake them ahead of time lol then I eat dinner and that’s really small also. I just throw something together. Tonight I had an apple and cashew butter and celery and ranch. I love quinoa when I FEEL HUNGRY. ( I still get those fat girl IM F’ing HUNGRY moments lol) and also chia pudding. They both have Protein and are healthy. I also like for breakfast on hot mornings over night oats. Oats, honey, chia seeds and milk simple and fast. It took me getting out of my comfort foods. And once I stopped them for a couple months. I started new foods. I fell in love with new foods. Also so many people doctors included say a pouch reset doesn’t work. It worked with me!!! During my girl time of the month I get f’ing hungry lol and I did a ten day pouch reset and it limited my eating like crazy. If you want the site i used I can link it. When I was obese I was a snacker. So I noticed I can’t Do that. Or I will get fat again. So I try really hard to stay with three meals. And breakfast being my biggest to fuel my day. And dinner being my smallest to end my day light and give my body time to digest. And I like to intermittent fast. There r apps for it. I try to not eat past 6pm. On some days I will drink a 4oz Protein Shake on the way home. For breakfast, I normally have an egg muffin (eggs, spinach, mushrooms, cheese and bacon) . Some days I have half a pack of instant grits with a half a slice of cheese (measures 4oz.) I normally have lunch at 1:15. It is 4oz of whatever I have made for dinner for the week Usually something with chicken or beef. I am a big fan of Beans and brown rice. Dinner at about 7-7:30 after a walk/run in the park. It is usually also 4oz of the second meal I made for the week. Usually something with Chicken. I really get what I consider, "Hungry" at about 11 am-11:30 am and about 4-4:30pm. If I give in to the hunger, it is a 100 calorie pack of nuts/with cranberries. I do also sometimes give in to Pork rinds. After I eat dinner, I am soon off to bed so I usually don't eat afterwards. I am still losing and am less than 20 from my initial goal. Edited May 28, 2020 by FWJ

FWJ 9 Posted May 28, 2020 Yes. I am losing 1-2 pounds per week. I am 19 pounds from what the doctor said I will lose with the surgery alone within 18 months. 177lbs is my first goal. I was told that I will lose 75 pounds, give or take, just from the surgery. The remaining 17 pounds that I will need to lose will have to come from my own work. That's why I am worried about getting the eating habits under control now.

I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but from what you wrote about what you eat and the exercise you get, and the fact that your losing at a good speed, I wouldn't say that snaking is going to be the issue, but instead what you eat. So far for me I snack rarely but mostly because I'm full most of the time. But if you can't eat too much at meal times and your exercising regularly your body just might need more nutrition. I would advise food tracking. That's the most effective way to keep on top of what your eating. If you do it consistently for a few weeks, you can see if the snacking is really throwing your calorie count and Protein levels off. Try to avoid carbs with your snaking and focus on protein first foods. Then after the few weeks you can reevaluate. Good luck!

I think you are eating a lot of carbs which are making you hungry - I mean Beans, brown rices, egg muffin (is there a muffin involved) I would try and see if maybe upping your Protein intake, and lowering your carbohydrates intake helps satiate you. Also how many calories a day are you aiming for, I guess if the dietitian thinks it's fine it is but like what you're eating seems like low calories 🤷🏼♀️ especially since you workout twice a day. I don't think snacking is huge problem if you are having healthy Snacks within your daily calorie/carb/protein plan either. But always need to decide is this just because I'm bored or because I'm truly hungry. I myself get hungry which I was hoping would not be the case, I was hoping the feeling of being hungry was going to go away for longer.

They consist of eggs, cheese, bacon, mushrooms and spinach. They are made in a muffin tin for convenience, hence the name egg muffins. I rarely count my calories. But when I do it is less than 1,000. I add unflavored Protein to almost everything in an effort to get more protein in. The nutritionist said to eat when I get hungry. The surgeon said 3 meals per day with few if any Snacks. I have yet to receive a calorie/carb or protein plan. I will mail the nutritionist and ask. What I have found is that the Beans and brown rice (healthy carbs) keep me full longer than say green beans and chicken. Are healthy carbs not good at all? Remember I am only eating a total of 4 oz per meal... I rarely eat snacks with carbs and they are generally a 100 calorie snack. Thanks for the info. I will email my nutritionist...
