Hello All! I am a newbie to this thread but I did have VSG in 2016. I lost over a 100 pounds unfortunately I failed my sleeve so now I'm going back to Mexico to have the mini bypass done. Notice I said I failed my sleeve not my sleeve failed me. I went back to my old habits. I still Have quite a bit of restriction but I'm just eat all of the time I have joined a support group and I'm also going to counseling for my eating disorder. Hopefully it will work this time. PLease don't judge but I am a heavy smoker and I am 41 years old and really worried about the surgery. I would like your opinions on the revision and any tips that anyone can offer. Thanks and well wishes to all!

Don't most surgeries need you to be nicotine free?

Did you suffer from gerd or reflux with sleeve? Because I've heard the mini may also cause reflux.

You should also find a proper psychologist to help with underlying issues causes you to eat more or bad.. I say this because of sleeve didn't help you why would mgb be different?

I'm glad you're going to counseling, because I'm afraid the same thing might happen with the MGB if you can't get a handle on your eating disorder. You (and I mean this generally - not you specifically) can eat around any surgery. There are lots of examples of this on this site and others. Good luck to you!

I had the sleeve and then due to acid reflux and my sleeve stretching I got the mgb. Unfortunately for me the reflux got worse after the mgb so now I'm getting a full bypass on Feb 3. What I can tell you was different for me was with the sleeve I had no pain and lots of energy. With the mgb I was really sore for at least a week and I was exhausted for at least 2 maybe 3 weeks. It also took longer for me to go from one phase to the other like Clear Liquids to full liguids, etc. I had to work harder to get my Water in also, really small sips. I also found out about dumping which I didn't have with the sleeve. Hardly any sugar and I was laying down, sick to my stomac, heart racing, head spinning and then exhausted like an adrenaline dump. You learn quickly to avoid sugar! It gets better over time but here I go again with the revision.

I agree with @catwoman7 Without the head work and getting to the bottom of why you do what you do.... No WLS is going to help in the long run.

and defiantly going to Mex won't help as their only concern is getting the money. I was headed down there before i found my dr. here. They never asked if i had any type of counseling before. The only concern was booking me in and getting the money.

I had counseling with the band and sleeve.... A lot of my eating came from wanting to control something.... My ex-husband controlled everything and food was the only thing i had. Plus I had been sexually assaulted at a teen and didn't really realize how much it affected me. But people eat for different reasons...

The MGB was what i was going to Mex for. Then i found a dr here willing to do the "revision" 10 min from my work. He doesn't do the MGB so the sleeve it was.... 8/8/19.

Mex MGB was like 8800 i think.... the sleeve here cash pay was 14k. But i factored in the time off of work, travel and the peace of mind that my dr was only 10 min from work and 20 min from my house...

Good luck with your decision, but it's my understanding that you have to be nicotine free for a certain number of months before they'll do surgery and that you have to quit smoking altogether after surgery. Are you ready to commit to this?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
