3 month stall question

Recommended Posts

Okay, so we all know about it but I have a specific question...

When in the stall, does the weight fluctuate? Like a two pound flux?

Just want to make sure I am in the stall or is this something else? I don’t want to make myself crazy changing things if it is just typical.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Everyone has a different definition of what a stall is, unfortunately.

I don't know about everyone else, but for me a stall is when a person's weight does NOT move up nor down, AND their body measurements does NOT increase nor decrease, for TWO CONSECUTIVE WEEKS, while all other things remain equal (i.e., the person makes no changes in diet nor activity level during this time).

So based on this criteria (which I realize others may not subscribe to), I never had a stall.

Yes, two pounds fluctuation is normal during a stall.

I didn't do body measurements during stalls, but for me, if my weight was just bouncing up and down by a pound or two for several days (as opposed to going straight down), I figured I was in a stall. They'd usually last a couple of weeks (but longer as I got further out)

I don’t measure myself weekly so I’m not sure if they changed. I do it once a month so I can’t be sure.

I’m closing in on goal so I know the losing will slow down. I’m just bewildered by this infamous 3 month stall that so many experience regardless of their starting BMI.

I was losing so nicely I didn’t think I would hit a stall but I think I might be in one...hasn’t been two week yet so we shall see.

I just don’t like the 2 lb yo yo right now.

My opinion, it's just you (and your new body) trying to reach equilibrium with a maintenance diet that stabilizes your weight. I assume you are eating more calories and a more diversified food mix than you we at say week 4?

Sorry, right I should clarify..I don't consider the daily changes (I actually rely on a moving average). I'd look at the numbers at the end of a given 2 week period vs the numbers at the beginning of said period.

Also as side note: during weight loss phase, my weight would fluctuate +/- 1 to 1.5 lbs every day; in maintenance I've been known to fluctuate +/- 3 to 3.5 lbs day to day.

There could be numerous factors as to why ppl stall and only that person really knows exactly what they are consuming and not everyone is 100% honest....

Sometimes you need to change up your intake or change your exercises or change calories until you figure out the exact combination your body likes...

true but...stalls are also very common, even when people are doing everything right. If they go on for more than a couple of weeks, then I'd look at some of things you suggested. But a one- or two-week stall is along the way (in fact, several of them) is pretty normal.

Yeah, food intake is status quo. I even decreased last week to see if I could break the stall.

I’m not two weeks at this same weight yet so I’m sure it will move along again.

Thanks for all the replies!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
