Sleeve to RNY Bypass - March 2020 - TJ, Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi - I'm scheduled to have the RNY revision from Sleeve on March 13, 2020 in TJ Mexico. I'm curious to hear about what the weightloss after revision has been for those of you that have had it. I've tried searching but I'm not finding a ton on stats.

I'm having the revision due to GERD and to continue losing weight. I have about 80 lbs to lose total after losing about 120 lbs with the sleeve. Here is my before (420 lbs) and after to date (306 lbs). Lowest weight was 279 which I'm trying to get back to by my surgery date.

I had sleeve to bypass revision mostly for my gerd and hernia. But I never lost all of my weight with the sleeve either.

I have managed to lose 35 pounds in the 8 weeks since my surgery. I feel like that is pretty good and not sure why so many people say that we won’t get great results with revision as far as weight loss goes. I am very happy with my progress so far.

Good luck!

I'll be getting my sleeve to bypass revision in March as well (March 3rd), but I'll be getting it done in Europe. Even though I had a successful surgery with my sleeve in Tijuana a few years ago, overall I was not impressed with the whole experience, so decided to try elsewhere (I live in Japan so a big overseas trip is a necessity for me no matter what). What's interesting to me is that the pre- and post-op diet recommendations are vastly different than to what I'm used to, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm interested to know how this goes for you. I also have GERD with the sleeve & it is so much worse than just heartburn. I only had my sleeve done in November, but I'm already wondering if I'll have to do a revision to get rid of these awful symptoms. You're looking great ! I hope your new surgery is a success!

Which doctor are you using? I’m getting sleeve to DS on March 14th at Mi hospital with Dr. Rodriguez.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
