Hello,

i had my surgery at KPNW Sunnyside. The decision was made for us. They only do one type of procedure. Gastric bypass RNY. The team there said it's the " Golden Standard".

That probably didn't help you much. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I had a slipped lap band that had to come out and my surgeon said it was easier to revise to a RNY than a sleeve. Also I had GERD before my band, and the bypass is supposed to help alleviate GERD, where the sleeve sometimes causes it in some people. Also I had developed a "touch" of diabetes, and the bypass really helps with that. I went off metformin right before the surgery and now, only two months later, my hemoglobin A1C is normal!

So I haven’t had the surgery yet (scheduled for 2/19). But I chose the rny bypass option for several reasons. I am pre-diabetic and this will for the most part reverse that. it is considered the golden standard and my doc says most patients lose more with the option. Another big thing for me was “dumping syndrome”. I know not everyone gets it but I think it would help me in the future to stay on track just in case I got weak and thought I wanted something I shouldn’t be having. I also like the fact that if worse comes to worse, this can be somewhat reversed.
Anyways, those are some of my reasons. Hope it helps some.

GERD - bad. Barrett's esophagitis with a Barret's polyp from the acid. No decision - RNY was the only option for me.

Tons of posts same as yours to have a look at..

I chose for the usual reasons..RNY BYPASS.

I wanted the restriction.

I wanted the Malabsorption.

I wanted the metabolic changes that come with bypassing.

I'm rarely hungry maybe I'm lucky that way.

I was taken off multiple meds within a week of surgery.

I've lost 130lbs in 5 months but I've been quite strict on myself...

Hi, I've been struggling in my adult life with my weight since the birth of my only child. I had the lapband done, which was a waste of money, it did nothing for me. My new doctor only recommended the bypass because he didn't want to set me up for any failures.

I was nervous and scared but I did it a year ago and I don't regret it. I lost over 80 pounds (I could have lost more if stayed on track) and still losing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
