If you were dehydrated how did you know you needed fluids? I’m 4 weeks post sleeve as of yesterday. I’ve felt like crap all afternoon. Dizzy, seeing spots off and on, and it’s weird to describe but it’s like my whole body is pulsating with each heart beat. Anyone else feel like this?

Your pee may be darker yellow is one sign. How much Water have you had today? I think calling your surgeon is probably a good idea. Good luck!

I’m about four weeks out as well, and am feeling the same way. It’s bad.

I’m focusing on hydration today, and am wondering if I should get my potassium checked. I track my food and am doing ok with nutrients (due to supplements), with the exception of potassium.

You could drink more Water and see whether your condition improves. As Lesley noted, the color of your pee is a strong indicator, although I have noticed that there is a lag time between my getting enough water and a change in color. 🙂

Definitely monitor the color of your urine for dehydration

If you even suspect it, get more Water in. Your urine would be a darker color, you would be tired, you can pinch your skin.

Nausea, dizziness and lightheaded feelings, wanting to sleep all day, not peeing more than twice a day, very dark pee are all signs of being dehydrated. I was re-admitted to the hospital three weeks after surgery due to being dehydrated. Just try and push fluids as best as you can. Try sugar-free ice pops. They work wonders when you don’t feel like drinking a whole lot.

I am five weeks post surgery and am just now starting to feel better.

Definitely keep trying to get more Water in. I know it is hard, but it is something we all have to try to do. If it doesn't improve soon, definitely let your doctor know. You might need some IV fluids to help you out. I have had two surgeries since my WLS... and both times I told them to give me extra fluids because I knew I was dehydrated. Both times it made me feel so much better!

FitnessRN, how are you feeling today? Where you able to get a bit more hydration in today, and if so, are you feeling better?

I’m doing better. I spent Sunday really focusing on my hydration. I added drinking Gatorade and it seemed to help. I see my surgeon Wednesday so I’m definitely going to talk to him about it.

I swear I could've written this post myself! Since Saturday, I feel like I've been digging myself out of a hydration/protein deficit. So, instead of tackling my physical activity goal for this week, I've found myself back on the couch, taking "small, frequent sips" of Water, eating eggs and turkey, and swilling Protein Shakes. *sigh*

But, I guess it's like my college softball coach used to say, "Practice makes Permanent." We got this.

I was shown the easy way to test dehydration by an old time doctor in the Bahamas years ago. Just pinch the skin on the back of your hand and lift up, then release.

if you instantly can't tell where your grabbed you skin, I.e. It snaps back into perfect place, you are fine. If however the skin drops a bit slowly or stays even slightly elevated for a second, you are dehydrated.

if you are dehydrated , drink a 32oz Zero. If not, just drink regular Water, and at least one zero a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
