Hands Peeling After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello My Fellow Losers,

I noticed about 2 weeks after my surgery that my hands are beginning to peel. It started with my thumb and has now worked its way across the entire inside of my right hand and has started on my left hand now. Has anyone else experienced this after surgery? I do plan to speak with my surgeon about it, and have already scheduled a dermatologist appointment, but I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone else had experienced this as well.

I haven't experienced that, but my guess is that you might be dehydrated and your skin is drying up. Are you sipping, sipping, sipping all day long?

There are days when I don’t drink as much as should, however for the most part, I do pretty good. That’s actually a pretty good reason though. I hadn’t even considered that! I read that it could be a Vitamin deficiency since surgery. Anxiously awaiting my doc appointment to find out. Thanks for your reply!

I recall having dry skin after surgery. I think it's dehydration, lack of Vitamins, and possibly just the effect of your body in survival mode with all the weight loss. I remember having to use heavier moisturisers on my face, but it eventually stopped. Drinking lots of Water will probably help.

Now that you mention it, yes! I am a month post-op and a few weeks ago, the tips of my fingers started badly peeling. I thought it odd but didn’t even consider the surgery as a link. Interesting! Primarily gone now.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
