Help with exercise pease

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am prepping for the sleeve surgery in March. I have chronic back pain and both knees need replacing. I have trouble getting on the floor due to these issues. Plus I can’t put pressure on my knees. Do you guys have any suggestions for strength exercises I can do? I really appreciate any help.

You can do a lot of exercise from a chair until you are able to get on the floor. I did exercise from a chair post op to get me back into shape from the surgery. Maybe you could see a physical therapist or just look online for chair exercise.

Good Luck!

I think I'd start with seated exercises. YouTube is full of them. If possible, aquatic exercises are also very good. You can often find classes at the local YMCA or equivalent.

For strength, I'd get me some thera-bands and incorporate it into my seated exercises.

Best of luck. Hopefully you can eventually transition to weight-bearing exercises.

Chair yoga and seated exercises sound best for you. Google that and you'll find videos of things you can do with elastic bands or weights while seated.

+1 on the Water aerobics. I work out at our local community center and in the pool area the have a lazy river which the dedicate walking in the mornings. I started out doing that, walking against the current. Easy on the knees and hips, but you can get a good workout. If you have access to that I would recommend it. I see a lot of people who have knee and hip replacements doing that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
