athea.lei 8 Posted January 15, 2020 So I'm in the process of working on the requirements for my insurance to cover surgery. I start class 1 of 6 bariatric nutrition classes tomorrow. I have to do these classes once month for 6 months. But probably in a few months, I will be moving to another state. Has anyone moved to another state in the middle of trying to complete the insurance requirements? Was it easy? Did you have to restart the requirements in the new state?Sent from my SM-N975U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted January 15, 2020 This has not happened to me but, the classes that you complete now will count towards your requirements. They don’t have to be done at the same place. They just need to happen in consecutive months. call your health insurance company to set your mind at ease. good luck!
Jazzy1125 1,010 Posted January 15, 2020 Just be careful... where you are moving to and if the insurance covers it in that state. I know there are 12 states where it is mandatory to be covered and others it is not. If you are currently in a state where it is mandatory and the one you are going to is not, your insurance can then deny it. That would totally suck! 1 Sosewsue61 reacted to this
BayougirlMrsS 3,935 Posted January 15, 2020 If you are keeping your insurance the same... You should be good as soon as you find a new dr. If you are changing insurance.... you may have issues. Some insurers won't cover at all... some make you jump through other hoops.... Some are a snap.... I would deff. check with your new insurance first. Its really not about the state, but about the insurance.
catwoman7 11,220 Posted January 15, 2020 it probably depends on the insurance company. If you're staying with the same company, call them and ask them.

athea.lei 8 Posted January 16, 2020 Thanks guys! I called my insurance, which is GEHA, and they said that the state that I'm moving to is in the same network with my current state, which is the Aetna Signature network. So I should be able to just move and continue on in the new state.Sent from my SM-N975U1 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 1 Losingit2018 and BayougirlMrsS reacted to this
BayougirlMrsS 3,935 Posted January 17, 2020 There you go.... you did the right thing by checking with insurance. I would find out who your case worker is and keep in contact with him/her. Document every call, when, who and what you talked about. When possible use email. I wouldn't settle for "should"... i would want to know .... Yes, you defiantly will be able to continue..... What state are you moving from and to? Cross all your t's and dot all your i's. don't give them any reason to deny you.

I definitely plan to have my current doctor just refer/transfer me to a doctor in GA.
JaleovexCax 3 Posted February 24, 2020 this is probably one of those times when it isnt a bad idea to contact the ATF. You are far from the first person to find himself moving out of state while waiting for a can to be approved.Edited March 9, 2017 by Netpackrat
BallChrIstopher 0 Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) I'd recommend you to contact your insurance company and the bariatric surgery program in your new state. Find out what steps you'll need to take. In some cases, you may be able to transfer your existing progress to the new state. However, in other cases, you may need to start the process over. It's also a good idea to ask about telehealth options for the nutrition classes. So that you could complete the classes online even after moving to another state. Btw, this it's going to be an overwhelming period. If you hire a good movers company, such as https://acelinemoving.com, you'll have less stress. I hope I helped you. Famulenu 1 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) Sorry for bumping into an old conversation. Moving to another state while in the middle of completing insurance requirements can be tricky, but it's doable. It is better to contact your insurance provider and inform them about your upcoming move. They'll be able to guide you on whether you'll need to restart the requirements or if they can transfer your progress to the new state. I also suggest using a moving company, like Movers Boston, to move easier. I hope that helps! Edited June 14, 2023 by Famulenu
