So all set to go to surg and my nicotine test came back positive . I haven't smoked for a month . My SO does not smoke around me ....what the actual f...... My pee wasn't label when she walked away with it . Maybe it got switched with the 30 other pre op pts in the room

We were just shocked , I asked them to repeat or do a blood test . But they are rescheduling

So I am just leaving it up to God and trying to understand there is reason for the delay

I am so sorry that happened. That happened to me 2 times and finally on my last test it came back negative. I have come to believe that it's just how your body responds. But mine too a full month to finally come back negative. And for me then I have to wait 3 months before I can have my surgery and test negative when I go in on 4/7/20. so I am just waiting now....but call the doctor's office and the will most likely tell you to take another test in 1 to 2 weeks. You just got to hold on girl it will work out when it's supposed to...xoxoxox

No, no, no!!!!! The pee must remain in your sight at all times until you see the jar sealed and you initial it. Your test was completely invalid! Did the surgeon's office do this, or was it at a lab?

This would be a battle to choose, IMHO. The tech needs re-education. If she/he is doing that with other drug screens, those tests are totally invalid. You might consider going to the lab director and asking to be retested. This is actually a patient safety issue, and you could frame it that way. Imagine if tests ARE getting mixed up! The implications for patients and liability for the hospital is astronomical. And we know how hospitals like to avoid anything that costs money.

You may have discovered a huge opportunity for patient safety. If the lab director doesn't do anything, continue up the chain of command. The Quality/Risk department would also be a place to stop and have a chat.

If you feel that strong about the test and how everything went request for them to do another one. That way you will know for sure.Good Luck. I know first hand about this smoking thing. But I am very glad I quit and I feel so so so much better. (Hugs)

I never had to have the test. Maybe it is because I'm a non-smoker and have worked with the same doctor for 10 years. I'm sorry for your delay.

If you truly feel you were wronged, just buy one of these and test yourself at home.

If it comes back negative, contact the Dr. and tell him you want to be retested as your home test shows no nicotine. If it comes back positive and you haven't smoked in a month, you've got a bigger issue.

You can resolve this in a day.

luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
