How many years after surgery could you eat a plate of spaghetti without feeling nauseous?

For what it's worth, the same calories of Pasta causes a lower release of glucose and resultant insulin spike than does the same calories of bread. Bread has tiny holes and the enzymes in your saliva start breaking down the starch immediately. Chew a bite of bread for 2 minutes and you will start to taste the sugar that has been converted from the starch. Pasta is much more dense and it takes longer for it to break down. You would have to chew it a lot longer to taste the sugar.

Regarding the "sitting heavy in the stomach" you might not be happier with them. They contain quite a bit of Protein. I personally like the Explore brand (in fact that's the only brand of bean Pasta I like, screw the rest).

My opinion being unsolicited bc Im VSG, I’m still commenting. Dumping aside, just stomach real estate considered, at 7 months I don’t suspect I will ever eat a plate of spaghetti again. And I’m glad. I didn’t do this so I could go back to eating that much.
I can have a bite or two at this point and be very satisfied and full but not “sick.” I can’t speak to “dumping” but I do get pretty ill from sugar.
I used edamame Pasta last time I made spaghetti and I liked it. Everyone else tolerated it🤣

I actually like the more "chewy" texture better than that of real Pasta, lol.

I agree. The husband didn’t care for it but he didn’t dislike it enough to make his own, so he will live.

One year out and I still don't eat Pasta and very little rice (both because I don't crave them and try to avoid the carbs). I love sashimi for the Protein, but I find that a normal single serving of sashimi is too much for me and I only eat half at one sitting. (I have actually starting making my own sashimi by buying sushi-grade salmon and thin-slicing it--much more bang for the buck!)

I still find most Chinese food too heavy--and I don't eat the rice. I do enjoy a small serving of Thai green curry with chicken as a treat from time to time, which was a pre-surgery favorite of mine. I love most fresh fruit but haven't been able to enjoy raw vegetables at all.

Unsolicited (sleeve pt also).... but i found that just eating the sauce was satisfying for me. My husband and I were invited to a friend's house and they cooked bolognese. I only at the about 4 bites of sauce.... I do the same with things that one should or normally eat rice with... Beans, stew, gumbo... I just leave the rice out. Rice is nothing but a filler. I do eat a bite or two of cauliflower rice here and there... like last night. I cooked roast with carrots and potatos....instead of rice... i ate two bites of cal. rice. It was just as good. a couple of nights ago my husband cooked stuffed peppers... made with caul. rice.... delish... i am still eating on that one pepper... in fact, i brought the last 1/4 to work today.

this was my face when you said rice is just a filler :51_scream: pre op rice was my absolute favourite food lol Can't touch it now but the brain still wants to defend a big bowl of steamed jasmine rice LOL

14 months rny post op and I split two rolls the other night with my wife and ate one too many pieces. Everyone is different. You won’t be eating two or three rolls alone any more but pieces here and there are no problem. Eat to live not live to eat.

there's no problem with eating spices - it's just some people's stomachs are more sensitive to them after surgery.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
