Surgery was 1/7 & now I'm 2 days post-op. The day after surgery was a bit rough- now, it's all about getting up & down. I have not figured out how to do that without excruciating pain in my right side of ab. I've tried videos, but still have not figured it out. Anyone else having this difficulty & how did you work around it? Thank you!

I hope you are going to recover and heal quickly. I'm sure the responses are going to be useful and will start flowing in. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, I just wanted to say hang in there.

Hi I had my surgery on Monday and I would say my pain was mainly my left side so when getting up I just try and lean over to my right side and then I have a rail on my bed that just helps me pull myself up, I have a bad back to have had the rail for a while but it definitely helps if you have something to grab on to, I hope it gets easier for you, I came out of hospital yesterday and feel so much better now my drain is out and I’m home. Yay new start

For me, I rolled on my side that wasn’t hurting the most and used my elbow to push up. It’s also easier to use your legs as momentum to roll over. I hope it gets easier for you!

I learned how to do the log roll to get out of bed when I had back surgery. You literally keep your body straight and roll to your good side. Use the opposite arm to push yourself up to a sitting position.

This stuck with me for many years and is how I always get up from a laying down position now.

I cheated... I have an adjustable bed and I put it upright and THEN attempted to get up! Still hurt, but not as bad as getting up from flat. I would also kind of roll towards my side and push up at times if I was somewhere else. My friend who had the surgery made sure to sleep on the sofa for the first few days so she could adjust herself. When her husband had surgery (same day as me) she urged him to stay on the sofa and he insisted on going to bed... regretted it... and ended up on the sofa. I think they propped themselves up with pillows on the arm of the sofa and used the back of the sofa to grab to pull up. Another option would be a recliner if it isn't too hard to move up and down in. Also, holding a pillow firmly against your abdomen usually helps as you move.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
