I doubt you will gain fat from that (as long as you get back on track immediately), but you may gain a little temporary Fluid weight if it is high in carbs.

I am assuming this is not on your post op food guidelines (otherwise you wouldn't be so worried)? Please make sure you do get back on track immediately, its a slippery slope if you continue to eat off plan at this early stage.

gaining weight aside, breads (esp dense, chewy ones like that) could be pretty hard on a healing stomach. I wouldn't do that again...

You'll have some Water weight gain from the carbs, but it's not the end of the world. Just stick to Protein and watch those carbs going forward.

Gaining weight isn't the result of 1 or 2 slip ups... it is a result of not following your nutrition plan and staying on track MOST to ALL of the time. We all have a slip up... but don't let it derail you from your nutrition plan and your goals.

And next time I would avoid any and all breads/rice/pasta and similar foods as well as sweets. I am 4 months post op and already at my docs goal weight, but I know that these are things I need to avoid as much as possible for the rest of my life. It isn't that I never have any of these items (well, rice I don't), but I definitely limit and control how much of it I eat. For example: I went to Olive Garden last week. I ordered meals with minimal carbs (to the greatest extent possible at Olive Garden). One of my vices is I LOVE their bread sticks. Instead of grabbing and eating a breadstick... I asked my son if I could pinch off a tiny piece from his breadstick. I did that twice. Two tiny pieces of bread (much smaller than a normal bite size). I got to taste my beloved breadstick, but I did not eat enough to do any damage. And remember, I am MONTHS out and I have reached docs goal (not my goal). I am allowed to eat most regular foods while limiting my carb intake.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
