Hi!

I am in the Seattle area, and would love to start a support group for people either considering surgery, revision surgery or is post-op.

I believe there are not enough of us to support each other through this time. Unless you have been in the situation, it is hard to understand. It is so hard in the Seattle area to create friendships, I thought that this would be a great way to begin. It is about common ground, support and trust. :)

I am 10 years, post op sleeve surgery. I have been recently approved for revision surgery, however, the surgery would be a sleeve to bypass. Completely different.

I would love to hear from you all and hear your stories.

Maybe we can get a little group together once a week and share over coffee? Yes, I am an addict, a slave to the coffee bean.

Jolynn

The Swedish Metabolic and Bariatric Center has a support group that gets together a few times a month that might make a great starting off point for you to meet people. I'll be heading to a meeting in the near future (just had surgery this week).

Thank you for the input!

Since bariatric surgery is still relatively new at Virginia Mason, there are no support groups started.

I will be checking out the Swedish Metabolic and Bariatric Center. Thank you for the input!

If anyone wants to get together, please reach out.

I’m in the Seattle area too! I had my surgery at Swedish in August. I’d love to meet up with others in the area for coffee and maybe some Green Lake walks once the weather is nicer!

Hi! Are you still looking for Seattle area folks? Yes, I know we're all staying home, but I'm looking for a community that feels local, even if we cannot be local yet. :)

I'm pre-op and going through the Kaiser program out of Bellevue. Technically, the actual surgery is across the street (literally) at Overlake. I live in Bothell/Lynnwood and work in Shoreline, so a Seattle meet-up at some point works for me.

Hi! I’m in West Seattle and starting my journey, just saw the surgeon at Swedish and going to see the dietician/psychologist this week. I’m up for a support group! Hopefully virtual because of covid!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
