Hi! I am 10 years post sleeve surgery.

I had my sleeve back in 2010, when the procedure what relatively new. I had the procedure done as an outpatient. I was cash pay and had no follow-up. Everything seemed to go well. I started at over 350lbs, and made it to 219lbs. I was ecstatic! I was no longer a diabetic, I no longer had high blood pressure. I no longer had an appetite. Being a cash pay, I was unable to afford a plastic surgeon, so I carried and still carry a bit of skin.

So, here I am, 10 years after. My weight today is 251lbs.

I still believe I have been successful. I can still shop at Macy's and not have to order everything online.

I gained weight, yes, but I have also gained confidence. After so long, my struggle with food is slowly returning. I am so afraid, that I started the process of looking into revision surgery. The surgeon that I have, at the hospital that I work at, will not revise a sleeve, but will revise a sleeve with bypass surgery. She states that there is a 100% complication rate, from things as small as a UTI to death. I would love to know more about this.

Insurance has approved the revision. I have already had the medical testing, upper GI, and will be meeting with the psychiatrist and dietician next week.

I would love to chat and hear stories from anyone who is considering revision surgery. I want to hear all of the good, bad and ugly. Please feel free to reach out at any time. I am new to this forum and would love gain support, information and be of support to others going through the same battles.

Thanks!

Jolynn

Let me know if you would like to chat further, I can be reached by email also.

Have you looked at DS or SIPS surgery? From my research it seems the better option. Revising to a bypass is said not to produce amazing weight loss (some but not all) my surgeon told me a revision to a bypass for me would only yield 25 lb or so and I need to lose 60. Good luck!

I had sleeve surgery in March 2018. I ended up with gerd and hiatal hernia this year so recently revised to bypass.
I initially lost 73 pounds with sleeve and then bounced upwards by 16 pounds.

I am almost 8 weeks out from rny revision and have lost 34 pounds total and two pants size so far.

as of now I am happy with my decision to revise. Only wish that I had followed my gut (pun) and got the bypass from the start. It is going to take hard work and determination no matter what route you decide to take.

Good luck!

Thank you! My doctor's only option is a revision to bypass.

Yes, 100% rate of complication. Anything from a minor UTI to death. Pretty scary....but still.....

I appreciate all the input and words of wisdom.

Losingit2018 - How hard has your recovery been since the sleeve to bypass revision? How long were you out of commission before returning to your daily routine? For me, it isn't about how much I lose at this point, it is about not becoming diabetic again, and being taken away from my nephew as everyone else in my family has. At this point, I am the sole survivor at 45.

Maybe I shouldn't try to get approval for a gastric bypass after all. 😬

I had an appointment to try to get approval for a sleeve to bypass revision, but I canceled it. This thread, and some other stuff I heard about gastric bypass, was freaking me out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
