JRT Mom 919 Posted January 8, 2020 Hi guys, I know I have to talk to my surgeon and have a call in to him, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any experience with this... I was diagnosed with osteopenia 4 years ago. I just recently had a new Dexa scan which shows it's a bit worse now. I had an RNY 6 weeks ago and am already taking Calcium supplements but think maybe I need more. If you have had this problem, are you taking additional supplements? Thanks for any info you can share. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted January 8, 2020 given it's only been six weeks since your surgery, it may not be due to the surgery - it may have just gotten worse on its own. I have osteoporosis. I don't know if I had it before surgery or not, because I didn't have a baseline done. But it runs rampant on both sides of my family, so it could be that, too. But that's neither here nor there. My surgeon's PA did double my Calcium, but my endocrinologist had me do some 24-hour urine collection test and I was excreting calcium like crazy, so she had me cut back to my original dose. We'll see how my calcium and PTH levels turn out on my next set of labs. If they're OK, then I'll just stay at that dosage. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
elcee 3,341 Posted January 8, 2020 I was diagnosed recently. No matter dear what caused it or if it’s just normal for my age. I take my multi, 2 vit D caps and I had to have a prolia injection 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
GradyCat 3,695 Posted January 8, 2020 I had to look up what ostopenia was, I wasn't familiar with the term. I'm a year post-op and still take two Calcium soft chews daily. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
FluffyChix 17,415 Posted January 8, 2020 Google Vitamin K2 supplementation along with Vitamins A, D, and E. Vitamin K2 helps transport Calcium and fat soluble vitamins to the proper places, and Vit D with K2 is important to make sure calcium gets to the bones rather than the arteries and soft tissues. 1 JRT Mom reacted to this

I take a sublingual that's made by Superior Source, but it's not necessary to take K2 sublingually. I just like sublinguals because it's one less pill I have to take... 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
