I am 6 days into my 2 week pre-op liquid diet and not doing so well. Up until last night I was getting by and following the diet very closely. Last night I still felt very hungry after my one cup of low sodium Tomato Soup and proceeded to eat another 4-5 cups. I may have to reschedule my surgery and start the diet over. I will be talking to the nutritionist at my surgeons office tomorrow. The liquid diet has been hard for me...

I don't think you can hurt anything by eating too much Soup. It's AFTER the surgery that you need to stick with 1/2 cup of food. I think you're okay. Tomato Soup doesn't have that many calories. You'll be fine.

as the above poster said, Tomato Soup doesn't have many calories. It's probably the sodium in it that can be an issue, so that's probably why they limited how much you can have (they were the same way with me with Tomato juice and chicken broth). But you're still pretty far out from surgery - you may be fine. It only takes a couple of days for the extra sodium and excess Water to be flushed from your system.

Thank you so much for your responses. I think I will be ok as well since I am still 10 days out from my surgery. I will check with the nutritionist tomorrow just to make sure. It sure is nice to be able to talk with people who have been through the pre-op diet already! Thanks again!

Bone Broth and Protein Powder really saved me during the prediet phase. Also the sugar free frozen pops. You got this, just remember after surgery the game changes. Your hunger goes away, and then it’s all a head game. Hang in there!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
