Hello, I had my sleeve surgery on 12/31. I’m 5 days post op and still haven’t had a bowel movement. I’m taking Lactulose, but no go. Has anyone else had this problem?

I didn't have that problem, but it's super common. Some people use Milk of Magnesia or Magnesium Citrate. Don't worry, it'll come.

I was sleeved on 12/31 and also haven’t had a bowel movement. I started taking Colace yesterday. Considering I’ve only been taking in liquids, I’m not worried just yet.

Yes for me it took about 9-10 days before I produced anything that wasn’t solid in form but once you get to about 2-3 weeks you will have the baby phase BM where it’s not solid but kinda like how babies have there poops. Then after when you get to the soft foods it’s smooth sailing. I will caution that the soft to solid food phase you might get really really backed up so do stay on top of the Fiber if not you will have an unpleasant er visit like I did.

Hey there. The best for Constipation is Miralax. If you added a full dose in something like hot tea or coffee, stir well and it will dissolve completely with no taste. Mix in no more than 4oz. You can take daily indefinitely as most GI docs support this method. Just make sure to stay hydrated with Water. It’s important to have bowel movements no matter how big or small! Lol. You got this! The longest after surgery of not going was only 3 days. And was daily every 36 hours.

I agree with miralax been taking it once to twice per day for 12 years now. Very safe and gentle.

not safe to go more than 3 days without bm. Could end up dealing with a blockage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
