Which Pain Kilkers?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had bruised ribs , and had agonising pain? I was given anti biotics for something , and they made me very sick and gave me terrible diarreoh. I was trying to vomit for 2 days and 2 nights on an empty stomach . The doctor told me I’d now got bruised ribs . I am 5 months post op and whenI left hospital after a bypass, I was told that I could only take Paracetamol . The pain is so intense that I can’t talk , or do anything when it comes, and the tablets often don’t last 4 hours .At 5 months out, dies anyone know if we can take anything stronger ?Tried to talk the bariactric team , but can’t get anyone .

Thank you in advance for reading this 🙂

I think the only things we're NOT supposed to take are NSAIDs and extended-release things....

Bruised ribs are very painful and there's nothing they can do about it. You'll just have to stick it out. I've never taken any pain medication for anything.

Try ice or heat as well. It may only help a little but could make the pain more tolerable.

I’ve had bruised ribs. They can give you a mild pain pill. Make sure to tell your dr you had the surgery and you can’t have steroids or any inflammation drugs.

Thank you Rthomas. I found out today that they found ecoli in my urine too, so I guess maybe some of the pain could’ve been that ? I don’t know really . In the last 3 weeks , so many doctors have told me so many conflicting things, I’m just overwhelmed by it all now. I was feeling so good after my surgery , then I got a stomach bug, and haven’t felt will since .

That drives me crazy when you get different information from different doctors. I hope you feel better. I hope they help you soon. I know the pain isn’t good for you especially after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
