Yes. I'm 6mos out. Dr prescribed me mirelax after surgery and I need to take stool softeners and will forever. Best to call surgeon to see what they recommend.

Chronic Constipation is pretty common with WLS patients. A lot of us take a capful of Miralax every morning to keep on top of it. Others use things like stool softeners, Smooth Move tea, etc. Just experiment and see what works for you.

Yep, welcome to the club. Part of our new life. I take benefits ever day/2nd day & a softener if I hit day 3 without any movement. For a while I had no trouble but then it all went to ‘cr*p’ (or no cr*p) again.

I am 5 years out now, the first few weeks it was explosive diarrhea and then Constipation that lasted for year or so but went away after that. For me, the issue was after the period of diarrhea when I really had to hold myself, I developed high sphincter tone and was unable to relax. Had to constantly take laxatives to keep a soft consistency. Over passage of time, tone returned to normal and have no issues now.

I'm 3mos out and still have to take the stool softeners twice daily. Even that for me doesn't help and I still wind up taking mirlax or I use a Dulcolax suppository which seems to work the best for me. I usually only go about every 3-4 days. I'm guessing this is going to be an issue for me forever.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
