Insurance approved

Recommended Posts

So I started this journey in August 2019. I just found out that my insurance has approved me.

I still need to do the EGD an I am scheduled on the 15th of this month. I have one major concern and that is, I can not tolerate any type of pain medication on an empty stomach. I am worried about after that surgery. Any advice?

Have some Zofran to take prior to pain meds.

I know everyone is different but I didn't have much pain after surgery so hopefully you will be the same. I was worried about getting sick because I've had issues with pain medicines making me sick in the past (my chart says I'm allergic to Demoral but it isn't really an allergy, it just made me terribly sick after I had my wisdom teeth taken out). I'd just be sure to tell the surgeon about your concerns. ...They put a patch behind my ear to help with nausea before surgery (I think I wore it for a couple days). They were also giving me liquid medicines for nausea for a while too in the hospital. I never threw up. Now that I think of it I have nausea medicine that I got filled prior to surgery and I've never had to take it (surgery was last July). Good luck with your surgery! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
