Hi everyone. I'm Gami from Michigan I and stressing out about the test for nicotine. I was a almost 1 pack a day smoker and quit on 12/9. I got some of the home tests online but still have not passed it. They pushed me back another month cause I gained some weight in November so at my appointment on 12/17 I lost 11lbs which was cool but I am feeling like I am never going to pass this urine test. I have done 2 urine tests and they came back positive. The RN said they would test me again next Monday 1/6 which I will be like 28 days smoke free. I am very happy about that but still very frustrated. Any words of advice. Please and thank you. 2020 is going to be my time to shine. Looking very forward to what's a head of me.

I was a smoker. My doctor didn't have a nicotine test thank goodness. My last cigarette was the night before my surgery. 😬 I will be thinking good thoughts for you. Whatever happens is supposed to hang in there! Quitting smoking on top of all this is a huge struggle. You got this!

You said a urine test for nicotine? The nicotine test for cotinine Usually shows positive for 3 weeks from your last indigestion of nicotine. Very important your not smoking for the healing your body has to do eternally. Smoking slows the healing down tremendously.

After years of poisoning your body it will take a while to clear up your system

Not true. I quit after a 37 year habit. Took mic test about 30 days later and passed.

nicotine is an addictive substance so I guess you could say we were poisoning our body much like most here were doing it with food

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
