4 yrs out fighting regain! Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Anita. I am 4 yrs post op and am trying to get back on track and lose 30 pounds regain and then continue on to goal. I have forgotten what I should be eating ( proper amount of Protein, carb, fat ratios or grams per day) and some of the rules. I remember I need to not drink 30 minutes on either end of eating and just eat 3 meals a day(I think) any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advamce’

most of us are supposed to aim for at least 60 grams of Protein a day (I have to shoot for at least 100 grams because I malabsorb it, but most people are good at 60). I've never counted fats or carbs, but some people are on low-carb plans. Maybe some low-carbers can chime in with this one...

other than that, it's protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then if you have room, a small serving of fruit or "good" carbs (e.g., whole grains).

also, experiment with calorie ranges to see what level it's going to take to get your weight loss going again. It's going to be different for everyone, so you'll have to play around with it to find your sweet spot. Try a range for a couple of weeks, e.g., 1400-1600, and if your weight isn't starting to move in the right direction, then drop down by 100 calories (1300-1500, in this scenario) and see what happens. Rinse and repeat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
