My new way of living

Recommended Posts

After much controversy out there on CICO and macronutrients, I spoke to my dr.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS ALL OPINION AND NOT FACTS

A little background: I have always struggled with my weight since I was a kid. I started dieting as young as 11 years old. After graduating High School I weighed in the 260's and was really unhappy with myself. I had a terrible relationship with food and would go from starving to overeating. I decided to have the sleeve done. I did the sleeve at age 19 in Aug 16, 2017. At first I did great the weight slipped off quickly, but what i didn't realize is that i was losing weight without eating properly. I didn't really track my foods after 6 months and ate whatever I wanted. A little less than 2 years out I realized that I had some regain and again started with yoyo dieting. Instead of dieting I needed to find a new way of living. One of the main things they will tell you out there is to do something you can stick to long term. Otherwise the weight will come back up.

What I have decided together with doc:

I will aim for 1200-1400 cals a day, minimum 60g of protien and maximum 100g of healthy wholegrain carbs, we discussed carbs for a long time, basically as long as you eat wholegrain healthy carbs and some fruits without going crazy it should not cause me to gain weight. And since I want this to be a lifelong way of living, I have to do something that I can stick too. Although Keto in the past has helped me lose weight quickly, I cant stick to it. I will also be adding 1 cheat day every 2 weeks in which I can have up to 1600 cals and must hit my protien goal first.( this is so that there is no food that I can "never have again")

Bottom line - I will try to stick to these guidelines and see what happens. I will post weekly updates on how I'm doing.

Amen, sister.

Everyone will have a specialized plan that they need to discover that works for them. Long Term. There is no one-size fits all. What works for one person may or may not work for another. I'm really happy for you that you have a plan to start off with (which is so much healthier for you body AND mind).

Will be following and cheering you on along the way...

❤️❤️

That's not that different from my plan, I just add 64 oz. plus of Water. Good luck sounds solid.

Yup forgot to write that. I drink around 80 oz fluids including 50 oz of water with lemon and cayenne (I hate plain water)

I'm happy to report that I'm down another lb CW 175.4. I've lost a total of 9 lbs the past 3 weeks getting back on track!!!! I'm happy that I am able to lose at 1200 cals. I'm hoping i won't have to lower my cals as I've seen that many ppl don't lose over 800 cals. I workout a lot and I'm pretty young so maybe I'll get away with 1200.

WEEKLY UPDATE

I did ok this week. As far as the scale goes I did lose 1 lb at the very beginning of the week. Being that I'm about to start my period, I'm hoping that I actually lost more ( I typically gain 2 lbs right before that goes down within a couple of days)I mostly stuck to my calorie and macros goals. Some days were higher than I wanted. But i did learn some things

#1 meal prep is very important, I found myself constantly grabbing something to eat until I would have time to prepare a proper meal

#2 sleep is very important. I've always struggled with sleep issues. I go into bed late and than still suffer from insomnia and I wake up in middle of the night. I only averaged 4.5 hours a night!

#3 motivation motivation motivation!!! The days I felt motivated through exercise or scrolling through BP it was easier to stay focused and eat right.

Stats: 29 months PO/ 5'2" / CW 175.4

Goals for this week

#1 Somehow get more sleep

#2 stay under 1200 cals

#3 meal prep and plan

#4 make it to the gym more

#5 stay motivated and keep going!!!

Edit- I forgot to mention my Fluid intake wasn't that great either which could be contributing to my hunger/ snacking problem

Goal #6 get in 64 oz of Water

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
