Ninja-slash-nerd 12 Posted December 25, 2019 (edited) I'm in puree stage and yesterday I tried some carrots and since then my throat makes sounds after i drink and i can no longer drink as much. What can i do to make myself feel better? Do i need to go to the ER? Please don't tell me that I have to go to the ER Edited December 25, 2019 by Ninja-slash-nerd
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted December 25, 2019 (edited) If this has been happening since yesterday it may not be an emergency. Not sure. But get some chewable papaya enzymes and keep them on hand for times like this. They are great at helping to digest the food. Good luck! i wouldn’t normally suggest this but are you able to make yourself bring them back up? Wouldn’t be a good thing to do very often but may help you now. Fatboyslim1 204 Posted December 26, 2019 pureed carrots ? Boiled soft carrots ? Hard raw carrots ? 1 FluffyChix reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted December 26, 2019 if they were RAW carrots, I couldn't eat those until I was a few months out. Raw veggies can be very irritating to healing stomachs. In fact they sometimes STILL irritate my stomach, and I'm over four years out. 1 1 Losingit2018 and FluffyChix reacted to this
Losingit2018 1,170 Posted December 26, 2019 Hopefully they were canned or puréed since the op mentioned being on the puréed diet. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this

FluffyChix 17,415 Posted December 26, 2019 We are all different. I was instructed when I have a food that I added and it did that to me, I was supposed to go back 1-2 stages for a day or two until the inflammation resided. Then try to progress again with ONPLAN foods. Carrots (raw) are NOT part of the puree stage. Well-steamed carrots? Would be ok to puree, BUT when you cook carrots to that point, they have a crap ton of available sugar in them and may spike your blood sugar and since you are a bypass pt. you might have an episode of dumping with sufficient quantity. So a better choice would be butternut squash, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling), or even a bit of well-cooked sweet potato. Or even better, roasted smashed cauliflower. Glad you feel better today. 2 Deedee12 and S@ssen@ch reacted to this
S@ssen@ch 745 Posted December 26, 2019 I second everything @FluffyChix said. Know your stages and what foods are allowed in those stages. It's not meant to torture you. It's meant to allow your body to heal. 2 1 Deedee12, FluffyChix and catwoman7 reacted to this
