Hi all! Merry Xmas Eve if you Celebrate.
I had my gastric bypass on 12/20. My follow up material clearly states I can have sugar free pudding and yogurt 2-3 days after surgery. I am petrified to try anything other than the shakes Water and broth. Can you provide insight on when you tried new foods and what was the worst reaction you had? All of my material seems to have not been cohesive and it seems all I talk to in my program have different guidelines to follow, so I’m nervous!

Well I was super scared to try anything as well around 3 weeks I tried tuna purred and it was a mess I felt the stinging pain of sharpened on the lining of my stitch and I completely backed out of foods and back on the liquids around 4 weeks and a half I had tried chicken cooked in broth and it surprisingly went down okay but I could only eat 2 bites and I was full for hours!!! I didn’t try romaine lettuce until about 6-7 weeks now when my doctor cleared me for everything but my worst mistake along with the tuna at 3 weeks and the Tomato sauce or any sauces that are thick and hearty. I ended up with acid reflux for two days and I was stuck sipping on almond milk for that time. I would suggest starting with the steamed soft chicken and in broth. Definitely follow your doctors plan I gave it a try for solid foods for the chicken and meatballs (can’t forget those) around 4 weeks. Hummus is good to and avocado is a life saver.

I had RNY the same day as you. My paperwork said that I can also have yogurt and pudding. I’m not sure what happened as part of surgery, but I. Cannot. Stomach. shakes. Used to love them.

So I tried 2.5 oz of yogurt today (low carb, high protein). And it was fine. No drama, nada. It was ok.

I made pudding with sugar free pudding mix, chocolate Protein Powder, and unsweetened almond milk. It was super sweet, but no problem to eat. I ate 1/2 cup in 30 min.

Just go slowly and listen to your body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
