My doctor has suggested removing my band and doing the RNY bypass. Does anyone know if they can be done at the same time? I'm unsure I want to go under twice for the same thing. I'm super freaked about losing my band, but I understand it isn't working the way it used to. It's a part of me and I'm scared I'll miss it.

Depends on the surgeon/individual. I had a band to bypass revision done two weeks ago as one procedure.

I had the band in for thirteen years, and it hadn't been doing anything for me but causing me issues.

I had my band removed 9/11/19, gastric bypass scheduled for 1/8/20. My dr would not do them at the same time. Wanted 3 months for the stomach to heal after removal. I had the band for 11 years. Tough 3 months gained almost 30 lbs. So ready to have the surgery and br on the other side of it!

I had them both done in one surgery, and had a hiatal hernia repair also. I would want to do it in one surgery--less hospital time and anaesthesia risk. My surgeon likes to do them in one shot if you are going band to bypass. He said it was difficult to go from band to sleeve and usually splits those up.

I also had it done in one surgery along with a gallbladder removal.

I had the band removed July 16, 2019 and had the RNY on December 10th. My wonderful, awesome surgeon would not do them on the same day. Informed my husband I had a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgeries when he performed my RNY but I do not and did not have any issues with healing afterwards. I feel wonderful! Good luck to you!

I had my removal and update to Bypass done at the same time. I'm so glad I revised!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
