courtneykq15 0 Posted December 23, 2019 Hello everyone, I have a couple questions about post surgery dietary restrictions. I am signed up for my surgery for March 17 and I am trying to get as informed as possible. I understand that there are phases of reintroducting solid foods and there are limits on what you can eat. But how do those restrictions work longterm? How about a year or two years after surgery? I know this is a lifestyle change but will someone reverse their progress if they have something sweet once in a blue moon (a year post surgery for example)? I have also heard that drinking soda stretches your stomach. Does this apply to all sugar foods? Ultimately, I am ready to make dietary changes but I am worried about whether I am signing up for a irreversible surgery in which ill never be able to have an occasional treat? catwoman7 11,221 Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) I'm 4.5 years out and can eat pretty much anything except for super fatty meals (e.g., my husband and I used to go to Friday night fish fries a lot - can't do that anymore - I'd be in the bathroom vomiting up a storm!). Other than that, I can tolerate everything. I just eat treats occasionally, though, because my weight heads north really fast if I"m not watching it all the time. that said, I really stuck to my plan the first year and almost never cheated. Once I hit maintenance, though, yes - I let myself have treats occasionally. Still do. edited to add that no, sugar won't stretch your stomach, but consistent overeating (of anything - not just sugar) will. And some people do have soda again once they're a few months out. I can't handle carbonated beverages anymore - they bother my stomach - but some people don't have a problem with them. (some surgeons don't want you to ever have carbonated beverages again, but some are OK with it once you're a few months out IF they don't bother your stomach) Edited December 23, 2019 by catwoman7

AJ Tylo 1,399 Posted December 23, 2019 I am not very long term but i can pretty much handle as above any food, For example this weekend ate a Cookie made for x mas - Also had a slice of pizza hut pizza. I have found that i really do not care for food anymore so as i switch to the next holding it off phase Im going to be careful. The days of a quarter pounder double and a fries super sized are over, The bread and grease will get you, but in general have no problems eating small little tastes A female friend just said this the other day - Its not like you can not enjoy the taste of food, You can not enjoy the piles of food as you use to. I feel so much healthier and confident now so GUYS going to say it again F@#ck Food! 2 Rachel Murdock and Tralynn222 reacted to this
