Feeling sad

Recommended Posts

Hey I’m sure it’s normal to feel a little sad, you’ve made such a life changing decision and it’s okay to mourn that! I believe you’re having a completely normal reaction to the changes of your old self, old habits, old mindset, etc! You should also let your doctor know how you’re feeling, hormone changes do take place when having wls! Praying for your peace 💕

yes - it's normal to have mixed reactions. If you're a menstruating female, you may also be experiencing the infamous "hormone dump" that a lot of people have. From what I understand, estrogen is stored in fat cells, and it's released with the rapid weight loss. It'll eventually stabilize - but I've heard the first few weeks can be touch & go with weird moods and irregular periods.

Sorry to hear that. I am 2-1/2 weeks out, and the happiest I have been in years. I guess it's all about perspective. Just tough it out, as no matter how you feel now, 6 months from now you'll be ready to take on the world !

When I went for the psych evaluation back in August - the psychologist recommended I go ahead and start Prozac to have it 'on board' before the hormone 'crash' hit. That was also when we thought I'd have surgery in January - but I got postponed a few times. I'm only 7 days post-op - but I do think the Prozac has helped.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
