HI from WA! Getting band in 2 days!

Recommended Posts

Helloooo! This is my first time on this forum and I'm very excited! I'm a little nervous because I've never had any kind of surgery before. I've been on the clear liquid diet for almost 2 weeks and I really hope this is the hardest part!! Every where I go I smell food... it's on the tv... it's in magazines... it's everywhere! I definitely find myself getting a little emotional, it feels like I'll never get to enjoy food again. And quite honestly, I really miss food right now. :rain:

Couple of questions for anyone that's been banded for awhile.... :help:

I heard that all beef and white bread are very difficult to digest... as well as carbonated beverages. Beef and bubbly drinks I can easily give up... but i looove bread... How about whole wheat or multi-grain type breads?? What about melted cheeses?

What are some of your favorite foods to eat??

What do you do when you dine out?

Do you ever drink alcohol??

Super duper hungry:nervous

Welcome Kayla.

It varies from person to person with what foods they can tolerate. I've had two fills and had pretty good restriction with the second one for about a week. During that week, I was really restricted in the mornings, so I drank a Protein Shake for Breakfast. By lunch I could tolerate softer foods like oatmeal, yogurt, etc. (anything mushy). I ate Snacks in the afternoon like: nuts, granola, those 100 calorie snack packs. And by dinner I could eat pretty much whatever, as long as I chew very well. I usually eat fish and vegetables.

I have eaten some bread, toasted goes down easier for me, but I try to stay away from bread just because I could easily get addicted to bread again, if I'm not careful. I haven't had any problems with cheese, I love it. I have been too chicken to try steak, but ground beef did okay with me. You could also try substituting ground turkey or chicken for the beef.

It's probably going to be different for you, just remember to take it slow when trying out new foods. Good luck with your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery.

I forgot the last two questions..... I don't drink alcohol but I have read that others enjoy the occasional glass of wine. When I dine out, I just make sure that I order something that I have had before, that way I know it will probably go down okay. Many times I order an appetizer so there won't be so much food left over and because it is a smaller amount, I won't feel like I need to eat all of the food. Sometimes I even have some of the appetizer left over.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
