Krestel 330 Posted December 21, 2019 I need some advice from all of you post-op people who are more than 5 months out. (Oddly enough) I still like my Meal Replacement shakes (especially for Breakfast and fast food alternatives) and usually Water them down in order to cut the sweetness. So im drinking about 24 oz over maybe a 30-60 mins. Is this too much? Could I be causing problems for my pouch without knowing it?
GreenTealael 25,430 Posted December 21, 2019 (edited) *Pehaps not too much, but too quickly* liquid mostly flows unrestricted through the stomach. However I was told by my team that it may be possible to train your stomach to empty too quickly by putting strain on the pyloric sphincter if constantly drinking high volumes quickly. (maybe because there isnt a lot of space to hold contents like before especially when the greater curvature removed like in VSG but obviously I'm not a Dr so this is only conjecture) 🔽Pics of anatomy added for reference🔽 *Ask your own surgeon about their thoughts/recommendations* Small sips with pauses in between was apart of my initial instructions and may prevent this. If you're easily getting all of your hydration needs met in a small window of time, *perhaps* slow down a bit and see if that makes a difference. Good Luck 💚 Edited December 21, 2019 by GreenTealael
catwoman7 11,220 Posted December 21, 2019 I drink mine that fast. I don't chug fluids, but drinking 24 oz over 30-60 minutes isn't chugging.
