Have any of you dumped on purpose?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys-Have any of you purposely ate a high-sugar food with the purpose of seeing if you dumped and to see what it felt like? Part of my wants to do this at home in a controlled environment, and another part of me is terrified at the thought of eating sugar...

I've had dumping a shitload of times not on purpose (and not from high sugar foods... just because I am ultra sensitive to like... everything). But yesterday I ate high sugar foods KNOWING I would have severe dumping. You don't want to know what it feels like.

Also, some people don't even get dumping... so it's better to think you may than know you won't... because then you won't have that fear and you may lose control of your eating habits.

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm doing. I like the idea of don't find out, 'cause if you DON'T dump you might start eating a lot of sugar again. I was just curious what it was like.

No way. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
If you are craving sugar, get a good tasting substitute like Monk Fruit. It's good without the guilt. I'm not here to bash anybody, but we all have problems. If you still have a sweet tooth, at least get in your Protein and Water first. Then substitute the sugars. Hope this helps.

Exactly! I am so afraid of trying sugar for this very reason!

The average person who fails after WLS does so because of sugar. Watch any heavy person with previous surgery and you will always see one of two things in their hands. soda and/or candy. It's the only way to screw up, because your new smaller stomach can't process enough actual food, to blow people back up.

If you have a sugar craving already, you should talk to a nutritionist about how to get over that hump. It's a terrible addiction and releases the exact same opioids in your brain as heroin and cocaine.

I have tied the sugar free hard candies from Branch's, and they are pretty good. 10 calories each. A couple per day seems to get me over any cravings.

Keep at it.

This thread turned harsh pretty quick ...

I actually chose a VSG because I didn't want to risk dumping. It was important to me to be able to eat "normally" post WLS. I didn't want to have any off limits foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
