it will be fine. I'm one week today and feel great. I did have trouble with anesthesia and had to stay and extra day but back at work and doing well. The surgery itself doesn't hurt. where they take the baby out does. once its done it will be fine. Best wishes to you today

Thanks you guys. I had a great surgery. I’m in very little pain and have been sipping Water and walking all evening. What I am confused about is the fact that I am HUNGRY!! Is that normal?

I am hungry too I had surgery like 9pm dec 18th so close to you I’m not super hungry but I do get there, I had excruciating pain when I woke up and for the first 6hrs then it subsided little by little I got a abdominal band to help keep everything in place and it’s heaven sent as far as walking I did 2 laps then 4 laps then 6 laps, 6 was a bit much but I’m ambitious so I pushed after lap 5... I’m having pain so no more for today they said 3 laps a day is what u should do

msbest2u I’m right there with you. Had my sleeve done yesterday 12/18 and am actually feeling hungry today and craving things that I smell ( but not as strongly as before at least). Thought this wouldn’t make me hungry initially!

Hi surgery twin! Yes, I thought the same thing, but what I’m being told is that it’s not really hunger pangs, it’s gas. I will be so glad when it’s gone. I have been trying to walk so it would expel faster, but I still have a ways to go before it’s completely gone. How are you doing with Protein? I can’t get any in because they all make my tummy hurt. I don’t know what to do. 😩

Not getting more than 20-30g in. I’m so sick of shakes and broth. I tried greek yogurt today and was able to stomach it so hoping that helps. I’m also walk, walk, walking. Just hang in there and do what you can! My sleeve only hurts a little if I drink a big gulp of Water on accident but doesn’t seem to mind anything else.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
